Synopsis:

Keaton Bridge is one hundred percent bad boy.
Cassie doesn't need a boy and certainly not a bad one. Nope. She fights crime for a living, and everything about this guy screams trouble, from his charming British accent to his mysterious past.
And Cassie doesn't do trouble.
Keaton's got his own trouble. He's trying to go legit, and an FBI agent hanging around is the last thing that will help his credibility.
All it took was one night of passion to sear her into his skin. Now he can't imagine living happily ever after without her.
All they have to do is walk away.
But neither of them ever walks away from a challenge.

Excerpt:

The list of crimes that happen on the dark net bounce through my brain as he holds me. Is he going to kill me? Strangle me right here in the parking lot of his own factory? Maybe he wants to try. He’s well-built but I’m pretty sure I can take a computer nerd in hand to hand combat. I just can’t let him get the jump. He goes for me. I’m surprised and prepared for it at the same time. I didn’t actually believe he’d try, but I’m reaching to block an attack while he’s leading with his head, which is weird, but I got this. When his lips smash against mine my body is a split second ahead of my brain. It’s processed the list of dark net violence and thus completes a series of moves to bring down a frontal attack. Even as I’m using his weight against him by holding his arm still while I swing him, letting his high center of gravity do all the work of stripping him of his balance, my mind processes the kiss. Because it was a kiss. A real soft-lipped-slightly-open-mouthed-I want-her-to-like-it kind of kiss. By the time those nice thoughts register I’m slamming him up against the car. I’m a little disappointed that I can’t take back my counterattack. I would have let him kiss me a few more seconds before taking him down. His eyes are open wide and the breath’s knocked out of him. The thump of his body against the car door fades into the night. “Why did you do that?” I ask. He looks at me as if I asked him why he pees standing up. Brows knotted. Arms out. Mouth half open as if he can’t contain the sheer number of answers he could give me right now. “What?” He says it like whot and it’s endearing and haughty at the same time. Damnit. I should have taken that kiss and not gotten all black belt on him. “Don’t sneak up on a girl like that.” I sound like a brat. He straightens himself out, pulling his cuffs down and realigning his jacket. “I’m going to pretend you didn’t just do a very impressive judo throw and tell you, out front, that I am going to kiss you. First, I am going to put my hands on your face, because I would like to feel your mouth move when I do it. Then I’m going to tilt my head to the right, so please, you should also tilt your head to the right.” He waits for me to nod, and when I do, he comes close to me and lowers his voice. “I’m going to wait a second once our lips touch, just to make sure we’re both appreciating this first contact. When I open my mouth a little, I want you to do the same. You need to accept my tongue in your mouth.” He puts his hands on my shoulders. “Is that enough of a warning?” “What happens after that?” “It’s unwritten.” He moves his hands up to my jaw, laying his thumbs against my cheeks. He strokes them and I lean forward. He kisses me just like he said he would. His tongue tastes like ice water, and his lips curve into the shape of mine. The adrenaline in my veins blends with something newer and warmer. He slides one hand back and tugs my hair which sends fluids and sensation and pleasure and all my attention between my legs. I push against him just so I can feel him resist. I need to fight him hard as I want him. He’s rigid and yielding all at once, turning us around until I’m the one with my back against the car. I shove him away and he separates from me with a sharp intake of breath. He doesn’t say a word, still holding me by a fistful of hair. The cold clouds of our breath mingle between us. He’s a predator, a criminal, and a mistake. But his jaw is tight and his nostrils flare when he breathes. He’s all those things and a bull charging for the red cape. “Push me away again,” he says, finally, “and we’re done here. And I know for a fact that’s not what you want.” I am the red cape, and I need to be yanked away as much as I need him to charge at me again and again. “When I want you to stop I’ll say so.” I shove him again, and he smiles before laying a kiss on me. It’s not a kiss I fight. It’s a kiss I want. He pauses, pulling his mouth away as if giving me a second to tell him to stop, but I don’t. I don’t start pushing against him until our mouths are locked again. His hips grind into me. I feel his erection through our clothes. I’m clutching his coat without any sense. I want to tear away every stitch of fabric. I push and pull with equal ferocity. I want to spread my legs but my coat’s too long. I want to punch him. I want that hard d!ck stretching me and I want it to hurt. My mind is wiped clean of everything but need. I don’t have a job or a career. I don’t have dreams built from childhood. I don’t have a name. I’m just a pillar of desire. I’m reduced to movement and hunger. I want his body inside mine. Nothing else.

RATING:

My first read of 2018 and I am off to a good start. How can I not be? This is CD after all. CD being an auto-1 click author for me, I know I'll get an exquisite read, whatever the story line is.

This new standalone is about a reformed(?) hacker and the FBI agent who's after him. There was an immediate attraction but with opposing agenda, how are they to manage those feelings and achieve their respective goals at the same time.

Keaton is a delish chap. Armed with CD's words, I don't how anyone can be unaffected and not be completely charmed by him. He cloaked himself in mystery which just added to the charm.

Cassie is woman wanting to make a mark in a man's world. I appreciate her edge and vulnerability. Her challenges are totally relatable.

I'm grateful for the dual POV. The storyline need it. As for the writing, CD's writing is lyrical and poetic as always.

For those who've read and enjoyed King of Code (I personally haven't yet), you'll be happy to get a glimpse of Taylor and Harper.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

BLOG TOUR: Bombshell by CD Reiss

SBPR-Bombsell-BlogTour.jpg

Bombshell, an all-new sexy and swoony standalone from CD Reiss is available now!

Reiss-Bombshell-23344-CV-FT-v6

Bombshell by CD Reiss Publication Date: May 1st, 2017 Publisher: Montlake Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:

Hollywood bad boy Brad Sinclair always gets his way, whether it’s the role he wants or the bikini-clad model he has to have. But when a bombshell gets dropped in his lap in the form of a dimpled five-year-old from a forgotten relationship, he knows his life is about to change forever.
Cara DuMont isn’t exactly thrilled when she gets assigned to be the nanny for the latest box-office king. She has one rule: no celebrity fathers, especially single ones with devilish good looks and rock-hard abs.
But as soon as Cara meets Brad and his adorable little girl, she knows she’s in for a world of trouble. Because there’s something about the way Brad looks at her that makes her believe that some rules are meant to be broken…

Excerpt:

The front door opened. I expected a housekeeper or butler, but it was the actor himself. I hadn’t forgotten how beautiful he was; I’d just chosen not to think about it. “Ma’am,” he said. Southern boy. Parents together. Christian elementary. Public secondary. Two years at USC Drama. Dates his costars for a month after the wrap party, then moves on. Poring through the trades and making calls, I’d discovered he’d spend at least eight of the next twelve months overseas doing action movies, but most had postproduction in town. “Mr. Sinclair,” I said, holding my hand out. “Nice to see you outside a bathroom.” He shook my hand. I’d shaken plenty of famous hands attached to gorgeous men, but my imagination was sparked by the way his fingers slid against mine to grasp them and the way our palms pressed together. My mind clouded over with ripped sheets, hard muscles, and soft skin. “Pleasure’s mine,” he said and my brain skipped like a trip on a cracked sidewalk over the word pleasure. He didn’t give me the oversincere hand-over-clasp to show me how damn happy he was to see me, but there was something intimate about that half a second. Just a consultation. I followed him into the house. Dora Donovan had designed it. Looked like her with her faux-midcentury white couch and shag rug. That wasn’t going to work with playdates unless he wanted to keep an upholsterer on staff. We went through the living room to a smaller room with a pool table smack in the middle. It had a stained glass Budweiser lamp over it and was racked for nine-ball. Dora Donovan had nothing to do with this room, for sure. “Wanna sit?” He held a chair out for me. The glass-topped table was just inside the open patio doors and was set with iced tea. I sat. “I’m not a date,” I said kindly, indicating the iced tea setup. “Just so you know. You don’t have to do things like hold the chair for me.” “Habit, I guess.” He sat opposite me. “Chivalry is nice. But with the nanny, whomever you hire, it can be misconstrued.” He smirked a little, as if misconstruing his own thoughts. I cleared my throat and pulled my jacket closed.

Review

RATING:

Every time I pick up a CD book, I almost always want to say how I miss her writing. In the first few words, a feeling seeps in that almost always makes want to say, "Ah, CD, there you are!" Don't ask me to explain more because I can't. HAH!

If you've read Shuttergirl, you'd have met Brad briefly. I must say, I did not expect this side of Brad. The Brad I met, the party animal who didn't seem to give a care in the world and just irresponsible, was just that. And yes, I was curious.

Brad's life was upended suddenly with the appearance of a child, his child, and in a short time, he had to find someone to take care of her. So begins Brad and Cara's dance.

As the attraction grew between them, it's a weird dynamics they found themselves in, with Brad being such a big star. Slippery slope to cliché-dom. How do they then navigate their way around each other?

Brad has secrets. Cara has hang-ups. How do you move forward then from a fragile start without fracturing things some more?

Like I said, Brad surprised me in the most delish way. Past the party image is a Southern boy with Southern manners. Past the Hollywood image is just a man wanting to do right by the people he cared for. Past the easy going facade is a man with insecurities and secrets. And along the way I just fell in love with him the more he reveals his flaws. Somehow, it made him more layered, more human, more vulnerable, move lovable.

Cara has this head-on-her-shoulder attitude on the one hand, and yet, a susceptible one on the other. She has a strong sense of self. She knows her strength. She's not perfect, she knows it, and she's ok with it, and yah, I agree, that's ok. If you're familiar with CD's other books, I don't think you'll be disappointed with Cara. Just like her other h's, there's something that's almost intimidating and admirable all at once with the confidence she exude, even in moments of weakness.

As a couple, Brad and Cara's chemistry is not necessarily the explosive kind but the slow burn between them matched the pace of their story nicely. It makes sense. If I were impatient at times, it's all my doing. Past CD works would pop up in my head causing me to compare apples and oranges when I shouldn't.

Nevertheless, CD's writing is just as moving and lyrical as always. It's like the words are leaping out of the pages to form images right in front of you. And maybe it's just me, reading CD's books always prompts me to think of a musical score playing in the background. That's how vivid she paints things for me thru her words.

And last but not least, it would be very remiss of me if I don't mention the little bombshell herself. She has got to be one of the most adorable kids I've come across in my fiction reads. I'd say she's just as much a star as her daddy.
"Zip it, lock it, put it in your pocket..."
Anyhoot, ladies, feel free to make room for Brad! Just sayin...

Excerpt:

He was tapping on my bedroom window. It was 2:17 in the morning. I got out of bed, dressed in sweatpants and black T-shirt and slapped the window open. He practically fell through it, adorable in his wet tuxedo and red eyes. “You’re drunk.” “I like you. I want you to like me.” “Go to bed.” He leaned back out the window, paused. “Do you like me?” “Against my better judgment, I do.” “Okay.” He was so drunk he could barely stand. “Please go to bed.” He gave me a salute and walked right through a sprinkler, toward the front house. I closed the window. Brad was lying in the grass facedown, arms and legs in a big X, getting sprinkled on. I could leave him out there. I could, he deserved it. But I couldn’t. I put on sneakers and a hoodie and went outside. He was face-first in a mud puddle. The sprinklers had shut off. “Brad?” He didn’t move. I pulled his arm until he was on his back, then pulled both wrists and pulled forward. If I’m making it sound easy, it wasn’t. I slipped and fell in wet grass, and grunted like a tennis player. But I got him to sitting. Half his gorgeous face was dotted with mud. “Brad?” No answer. I slapped him. Nothing. Slapped again, harder. He groaned. Then I pulled my arm back and really hauled off and whacked him. “Ow.” “You have to wake up. I can’t carry you.” “That hurt.” I crouched, getting my shoulder under his arm. “Okay, I’m going to count to three. On three, stand up.” “Do you know you’re beautiful?” “One.” “And you smell like a fruit cup.” “Two.” He looked at me, the weight of his head tilting his face at an angle to mine. “You’re the queen of the house.” “Three.” We lurched up. Took a step left. Adjusted. Stood steady. “Can I just sleep here?” “No. Nicole isn’t going to find your drunk a$$ on the lawn in the morning. Lean on me.” We took one step forward, then two. I held his wrist with one hand and his waist with the other. The front of his tuxedo shirt was brown with mud. I got wet wherever his clothes touched me. “Do you have fantasies, ever?” He hopped onto a new subject as if it was completely natural. “Like about what?” I asked. His arm around me, his breath soft in my ear. Even his dependence was kind of a fantasy. “You know what bothers me about fantasies?” “Watch this chair here. Whoa.” I pulled him left, narrowly missing tripping over a lounger. “You never know if you’re getting it right,” he said. I turned to him, and found his eyes taking up my entire field of vision and my nose two inches from his. “Like when I fantasize about f*cking you.” We almost tripped on the entrance. I swallowed my lungs, stomach, and heart in one gulp. He was drunk. He didn’t mean it. He never thought about f*cking me. Not Brad Sinclair. He was my boss.

Excerpt
He took my hand, putting it in his lap as if it was finally home. “What are we doing?” he asked.
“Screwing up.”
“Like it’s our job.”
“If you’re going to do something, I say, do it all the way.”
He squeezed my hand. I was jarred by the way he looked in the direction of the window, but not through it. He didn’t look like the commanding Dominant who had been my partner for the past few weeks. As handsome as ever, and graceful and sharp, a leader and a decider, but not the same.
He faced me. “I don’t know how to fix this.”
The streetlights glinted off the light in one eye and his jaw locked, catching things he’d never say. He looked like a man I knew and abandoned. Manhattan Adam.
“We can’t fix it,” I said, putting his hand in my lap, watching our clasped hands make a new form. I rubbed the outside of his thumb with mine, feeling it’s familiar shape, the strength of the knuckle and the texture of his skin on mine. “We have to build something new. And we can.” I looked up from our hands to his face.
Could I make him feel my optimism? Could I take a piece of it onto a fork and lift it to his lips? Would they part? Would he let me lay it on his tongue? Would he chew and swallow, saying “I do. I do believe we can, I do.”
He didn’t say that. He didn’t believe, but his lips needed to touch my belief and his tongue needed to taste my hope.
I don’t know if I kissed him or if he kissed me, but it felt like a first kiss, with full quivering that left me paralyzed at his nearness. The act of two tongues tasting each other was so intimate between strangers, so taken for granted over time, and so rarely is the wonder of it felt through to the bone.
He was licorice. Fennel and leather. And he moved like cool water, reacting to my movements, countering with his hands and his mouth, covering me with his attention. The kiss was the sway of sex, the smell of it, the carnal desire without the promise of anything but another dance.

About the Author
CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up, she's at the well, hauling buckets.
Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.
Critics have dubbed the books "poetic," "literary," and "hauntingly atmospheric," which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she's some sort of braggart who's too good to chop a cord of wood.
If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
