RATING:

This picks up right where bk 2 ended, oh boy! Kaz of course had to make it but then he had to recover from that fatal incident. And as he recovered, it wasn't as if the world paused on his behalf. Of course not! So the plan was he recovers, gets rid of people once and for all, settle things then he and Violet can finally live the life they want. Simple, right? Of course not!

There was so much happening in this last book. The backlash from every action ping pong'ed between Kaz and the other major players. And so much blood shed, oy! It's a lifestyle not meant for the weak of hearts, that's for sure.

And Violet understood that.Violet had to make sacrifices for the good of her loved ones. To put herself in that position took strength. And just as Violet made sacrifices, it meant just as a sacrifice for Kaz. Kaz had so much warring emotions inside, it was difficult to see him suffer emotionally that way. But luckily for these 2, their love could survive it. Ironic at the same time as it's the same love that put them in the position they found themselves in. With that love comes that passionate heat. Man, talk about best angry sex! *g*

The path to their HEA was definitely not an easy pavement but once they got to it, it's well deserved. Whew!

RATING:

Kaz and Violet’s story continues. Now that Kaz is out of prison, there’s a lot of things to be taken care of. Both families are after them. Kaz knows he needs to do something. Kaz gets some help, but is it enough? There’s no doubt between Kaz and Violet, but that’s not even an issue. The issue is their safety. As ruthless as Kaz can get to keep Violet safe, and him for that matter, is it enough?

Kaz remains the swoony kicka$$ H that he is. I actually like Violet more now. There is an unassuming strength to her that I didn’t appreciate before. I like Kaz with his friends. Individually and together, they’re scary in have-no-fear-you’re-always-safe-with-me-way, ie if you’re on their side. And that thing between Kaz and Violet, still explosive, oh yeah!

Clueless me thought though that this was a duet so imagine my confusion when it felt like nothing’s being resolved even towards the end. While things are moving forward, it also felt like nothing was happening. Then of course there’s that ending! Waaaahhhh!!!!

On that note, at the end of it, this is the clearly the bridge to get the readers to what I’m sure will be an explosive ending (it is just a trilogy, right?). CANNOT WAIT for bk 3!!!

Review

RATING:

Ooh, this new series by Bethany-Kris and London, I dig it! London’s a new-to-me author, but not Bethany-Kris. As much as I keep telling myself no more series for me, I keep getting sucked in. Here’s one good example of that.

It’s like Romeo and Juliet set in New York with the mob backdrop; she of the Italian Cosa Nostra and he of the Russian Bratva. Meeting once as children, these 2 moved on with their merry lives until their paths cross again.

They were forbidden to cross paths but it just kept happening anyway. The one event that started this all brought on more consequences, no thanks to Violet’s friends, and that’s what got the ball rolling further down the forbidden path that neither anticipated.

Violet was one lost girl. She wasn’t doing well in school. She has friends who were not real friends. She was “daddy’s little girl” who had to abide by all of her father’s rules. She’s got no voice in that household, sadly. Yet, I admit, I wasn’t always able to empathize with her. But what I got loud and clear is how she felt about Kaz. Not just in words but in thoughts. How can I not?!? Even I can see why!:p

Kaz, Kaz, even with the circumstances at the end, he’s DA man! I love how self-assured he was, how protective, how tough, how caring he was with his family… umm, how hot he was *winks* and how dirty his mouth could get *giggles*… And I got loud and clear how affected he was by Violet, right from the start… sigh…

The 3rd-person narrative threw me off at times. With dual POV, the transition wasn’t as seamless in my head at times. But I’m pretty sure it’s just me. On the whole though, if you’re a fan of mob romance and ready to lose yourself in a series, this is definitely a good addition. There’s a love story for sure, there’s violence, there’s substance, there’s suspense, there’s drama, there’s heat. Oomph!

Now I wait for book 2… and on that note, crossing fingers that Ruslan gets his story too. *nudge-nudge*
