RATING:

As I write my review, I put myself thru the exercise of going thru parts of a book to try to remember if there are things that I questioned or didn’t enjoy at the end of it all, and when I can’t think of any, that’s how I know it’s a 5-star read.

Such is the case with this 3^rd standalone installment by Penny Reid and LH Cosway. I’ve still yet to read the 1^st book (for shame!) but I can see that this series just keeps getting better.

Bryan and Eilish have quite the interesting start. It’s not quite second-chance rom but I suppose it is their version of second-chance. A one-sided one-night stand that went awry really fast, with quite an “evidence” as proof. Five years later, their paths crossed again.

First off, I love the humor and the sentiment. If this were a movie, it would’ve been one of those well-crafted comedy-drama flicks.

I love being both in their heads. They’re both so funny. I love seeing their vulnerabilities and how that translated with their words and actions in a way that I was constantly cheering them on, even in the midst of their misunderstanding. They both have to go thru their respective growth and I love the path it took them.

Eilish is a good h. I understood her motivation. But I must say, I’m all about Bryan. I could’ve stayed in his head the entire time and I would’ve been ok. Not that Eilish was a foregone conclusion; it’s just that Bryan had more at stake, so to speak. He had me cracking up and at the same time, I just wanna put him in a bear hug.

And if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll be happy to hear that you’ll see familiar names. Sean, in particular, continues to steal the scenes, as far as I’m concerned. Oh, Sean! These rugby fellas, I tell ya, you gotta love them! I feel one will be getting his turn soon. And if I may just say one last thing, I enjoyed the headings of each chapter. Those Twitter convos alone got me smiling goofily.

So far, I only have 3 fave author collabs, and Penny and LH are definitely one of them... If it’s up to me, they can keep writing this series and I’ll keep reading. I totally heart this series!

RATING:

Oh my goodness, this is such a treat!

 LH is a new-to-me author even though I’m pretty sure I have 3-4 of her bks from the Hearts series in my TBR pile *hangs head in shame*, but Penny isn’t. I’ve had the pleasure of reading parts of her Elements of Chemistry series, the first book in her Truth or Beard series, plus I have some of her Knitting in the City series yet to be read… anyhoo, I know I can count on Penny to give me humorous witty exchanges when it comes to her characters, and yay, I got that here too!

 This is the second book in the series; I haven’t read the first one which is why I was twitchy when I first picked this up. It is a standalone but I don’t like reading out of order because just like most standalones, characters from previous book(s) are normally present and sometimes, the succeeding books end up giving away something from the previous one(s). I don’t think that’s the case here. Yes, it sounds like Sean has a lot of history with Lucy’s brother, Ronan, who was in the first book, and there were things that happen, but how much of a spoiler it is, I’m not sure. I’m still ok with it, and I know I will still read the first book, eventually, as I do want to find out how Ronan and Annie got to their HEA.

 Anyhoo, Sean and Lucy are such a pair. It starts out as having that forbidden feeling due to Sean’s history with Ronan. They both have interesting compulsions. They realize there’s a connection there. And thanks to Sean’s lack of certain skills, an agreement was formed, a delish one at that.

 If I can describe Sean in one statement, it’ll be that he’s like a big lug; an adorable, crass but well-spoken big lug. He is, anyway, especially when it came to Lucy. I don’t think I’ve read a H like him. It’s quite sweet to see his growth. And Lucy is just as endearing. She has her issues but she really is a sweet gal. There is a contradiction to her when it came to Sean, but I get it. On the one hand she’s confident how she handled Sean in the bedroom, on the other, there was that insecurity.

 I really enjoyed some LOL moments when I read this, especially with some of their bedroom interaction in the beginning and some of Sean’s thoughts. Not just that, the humor throughout was well laid out, including the self-deprecating ones. I think I got just the right amount of sweetness, and the angst wasn’t overplayed. YAY!

 So now, to get to Ronan and Annie’s story soon, and also getting a glimpse of the third book at the end of this book, I have more to look forward in the series. *happy dance*
