Well, well, well...

This is something I totally did not expect from KI. What a trip!

Paisley/Lacey was definitely the highlight in this book for me. From a nondescript existence to the person she’s become, thanks to Six, was a 180-deg turn, to put it mildly. I have to say that I didn’t quite get her at first. Her conflicting feelings that sound very much like Stockholm syndrome were headshake-inducing initially. But as time moved on, I get it. I started appreciated her biting remarks. And did I enjoy her quirky thoughts! She made me laugh, I love it! Whether I agree to what she’s become or not, I can appreciate her ballsy-ness and her strength.

Six is def no H. He’s cold and callous. His treatment of Paisley/Lacey, especially in the beginning, was questionable at best. No touchy-feely words but in the end you know there was something there. The classic anti-H.

All told from Paisley/Lacey’s POV, KI took me on a ride where, as KI put it, morals are straddling the grey area, where values are questioned in the name of survival, and where emotions grew and heat ignited under the unlikeliest circumstance.

Review

K. I. Lynn has been on my radar for a while now thanks to her Breach series. N. Isabelle Blanco is a new-to-me author…

Off the top of my head, I wanted to say I didn’t like this at all. BUT as I let my thoughts about this book swirl around in my head, I know I can’t really say that. It’s probably more apt to say that I want to dislike this book but I know that won’t be entirely true.

Courtesy of a Goodreads friend’s review, I learned that the blurb pretty much tells you the whole story. Was that good or bad? For me, it was, as it helped me frame my mind as I start reading this. At least I knew what I was in for.

Now, on to my feelings about everything else about this book…

The whole book is angst-filled from start to finish. Was that good or bad? Good, because it took me on an emotional ride. Bad, because, at some point, how much is too much?

Brayden, I loved to hate him, and hated that I love him. Wow, did I just sound like Kira there? He’s a d0üche, really. For all that feelings he had for Kira, he just couldn’t seem to keep it in his pants. I had to go to that part of my brain that concedes to the fact that he’s a raging hormonal teenager/young man. Nevertheless, does that really excuse it? Don’t think so. Yet, I felt for the kid to have such a visceral reaction to Kira at that young an age. And when I get to that place, I bought every word that came out of that kid’s mouth >.< Oh and is it ever the dirty mouth! He can give any full-grown alpha h a run for their money!

Kira, I like her, I really do. I felt every ounce of her insecurity and giddiness and pain and anger and angst. That’s how it is when you’re in love at that age!

Then there’s this pull between them. Did I really buy it? Yes and no. I’m enamored with the idea of something so magnetic between them that just tether them to each other. But when put in purely physical form, that’s just lust, isn’t it? Then what? Did I really see what binds them to each other beyond their physical reactions? I dunno.... Regardless, I’ll be the first to say that the heat b/w these 2 is thru the roof! I know, so right, yet so wrong, yet so right…

And then, there’s Ryan, Kira’s brother, the only one with sense, I like him.

Which now leads me to the ending… Seriously?!?!!? First, I didn’t realize this is book 1 of 2, which made me think that it’s a complete story. Second, after having all read that angst, I’m not sure how much of it I can take when it continues. Third, and consequently, the way it ended, if I didn’t get a sneak peek of book 2, I would’ve been gravely pissed, yes!

Oh, but here’s the real kicker, the way the sneak peek ended, how can I not wanna know what happens to these kids?!!?!? GAH!!!

And there you have it, folks! Clearly, this is not about the writing but more about what I felt while reading it… I’m not rating it this at this point, because it’s seriously a 5-napkin read one moment, and 1-napkin read the next. I may end making up my mind down the road, but not today. O.o

Brayden 

My hand is actually shaking when I reach up and grab the thin fabric between my thumb and index finger. Kira goes utterly still, her chest rising and falling rapidly.
  One move, a tiny pull, and the purple evidence I’d left behind is bared to me.
  It’s the sexiest f*cking thing I’ve ever seen, with the exception of her expression while we were kissing last night. I love it.
  If I could, I’d strip her down right now and give her another five or six of them.
  Groaning softly, I bend just enough to drop a kiss on the hickey I gave her. She tenses against me and gasps. Melting into her, I place my hands on the wall next to her head, bracing myself, and set in, tonguing her neck over and over.
  Right on my mark.
  I bite it, fighting the urge to go hard, make it deeper, larger.
  Kira fists my T-shirt, but she doesn’t push me away. She seems stuck between pulling me closer or keeping me where I am. A small whimper reaches my ears.
  This is what I’m going to do to every inch of you one day, I think as I swirl my tongue around her skin.
But not today.
  Not. Today.
  I feel like someone is purposely poisoning me, slowly killing my life force one cell at a time. I told myself I’d wait, but how do I do that when her body is f*cking screaming for me?

  “I didn’t go off with anyone last night,” I repeat, speaking slow so that my words sink in and she gets what I’m telling her. She still doesn’t seem to believe me. It pisses me off that her eyes doubt me, more than I can properly describe in words.
  Curling my hand around her jaw, I stare into her eyes. “I don’t want anyone but you, Kira.” I want to give her some time to assimilate that, for it to sink into her head.
  But I can’t wait anymore.
  I lean down and press my lips to hers, yelling at myself to take it easy this time. To not go at her like some beast again.
  One feel of her lips, the taste of her gasp against my mouth, and my plan gets shot straight to hell.
  Holy God, this girl drugs me, her scent, her heat, the wet lushness of her mouth. Kira melts into me, her small arms wrapping around my neck, pulling me closer.
  Greedy. Just like last night.
