THE CONCLUDING STORY of Aimee and Kestrel, begun in THE TRAVELING MAN ……

How many times do you gamble on love? When love has knocked you down, should you give it another chance? When does optimism become stupidity?

And what happens when the man you’re in love with is never still, always moving, always traveling? Do you say goodbye, or do you leave behind everything that you’ve worked for, everything that you’ve ever known? Can a traveling carnival be my home

Oh. You thought I had the answers. No, sorry. No answers, just a lot of questions—and a heart that wants to rule my head.

Can one person be my home?

I stopped suddenly and Gregg all but ran me over, knocking my purse from my arm and making me stumble.
“Really, I can explain about Lulu,” he babbled, but I wasn’t listening to him.

I was staring at the man on the other side of the parking lot, his silver-gray eyes fixed intently on me.

"Kes,” I breathed, my heart starting to gallop.

I squeezed my eyes shut, wondering briefly if I’d fallen over the edge of sanity and conjured him up, imagined that he’d come for me. But when I looked again, his eyes were still watching me, full of fire.

Gratitude, hope, love, shock—so many emotions twisted inside me.

He was leaning against an electric-blue motorcycle and a plain black helmet dangled from one hand. A leather jacket hung from his broad shoulders, his long legs encased in dark denim and ending in heavy black biker boots. He looked dangerous, and when he pushed his free hand through his dark hair and straightened up, his heated eyes never left mine.

He was here. Really here. For me. My body hungered for his and my arms longed to reach out for him. The words ‘I love you’ burned on my tongue, but I bit them back. He was here, but I needed to know what it meant. So I locked my heart away. Kes still had secrets.

But he’s here! My happy heart screamed. His eyes swept up and down my body and a pulse of heat washed over me as color rose in my cheeks.

But then his eyes narrowed slightly as he lasered in on Gregg, and I could see the rage boiling up inside him.

“Oh sh!t,” I said softly as Kes stalked toward us.

I pulled my purse back onto my shoulder and glanced at Gregg who was still talking. Finally, he noticed Kes striding over and his eyebrows lifted with surprise. But it was Kes who spoke first.

“Can we talk?”

I stared at him. “You want to talk? That’s new.”

He winced, regret and pain on his face, and glanced across at Gregg. “Am I too late?” I met his eyes and spoke honestly.

Oh, where to start with this one???

Quite honestly, I’m struggling for words to describe how I feel about this one. This book left me with a jumble of feelings, all good of course. Yes, all good, even with the ups and downs this took me, but I think they just sometimes feel so real, both the ups and downs, that it’s leaving me almost at a loss for words, if that makes sense.

This is the continuation of Kes and Aimee’s story. We were left with a cliffhanger in The Traveling Man and the beginning of this story showed what happened shortly after. If the first book focused mostly on Kes’ world, here, we also got a glimpse of Aimee’s world, and as small a portion as that may have been, it’s quite interesting to see the dynamics given the 2 clearly different world they inhabit. And what happens after, you’re just gonna have to read.

Still told from Aimee’s POV, Jane took me for a ride and showed what happened after these 2 took a(nother) chance on love… sigh…

“You won’t lose me because I won’t let you.”

Aimee really stood out for me here, with the actions she took, the decisions she made, and the struggle she went thru. Her decisions took balls and for me, it showed the extent of her feelings for Kes.

Kes has always been the star for me from the beginning. He was never this perfect guy, yet with the sincerity of his words and actions, even the imperfect ones, and the innocence that somehow never left him, I fell just as hard for him as Aimee did.

I have to say that this was a slow burn. It feels like nothing extreme was happening for a while. It was more about how they navigate with their daily lives. Then as the other shoe dropped, as they say, I did get worried. I was worried for these 2 kids. Things just had to work out, they had to!

After reading this, I just felt all gooey inside. Can’t help it, really. Kes and Aimee’s story is just so darn sweet. It doesn’t mean that it’s all rainbows and unicorns because it wasn’t. Believe me, it wasn’t! But it shows what ‘true love’ can be and do. Some may buy it, some may not. Some may roll their eyes, some may not. Me? I bought every bit of it. I was happy when they were happy; sad when they were sad; and cried when they cried. I was there with them at every turn of their emotional ride.

Needless to say, quite a happy camper here, you betcha!

traveling man

I was ordinary. Nice. He was extraordinary. And he wasn’t always nice.

Moody and difficult, brilliant and beautiful, Kes scared me and he protected me. He could be incredibly hurtful and incredibly thoughtful. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for me. He challenged me, he took me out of my safe little box and showed me the world could be magnificent. He was everything I wasn’t.

Aimee Anderson is ten when the traveling carnival first comes to her nice little town. She doesn’t expect her world to change so completely. But meeting Kestrel Donohue puts her life on a different path.

Even though she only sees him for the two weeks of the year when he passes through her home town, his friendship is the most important of her life. As a child’s friendship grows to adult love, the choices become harder, and both Kes and Aimee realize that two weeks a year will never be enough.

BLOG TOUR: Taz (G-Men Series, Book 4) by Andrea Smith

Meet Taz & Lindsey in this sexy, suspenseful stand alone in the G-Men Series!

Taz:

My life is finally perfect. My dreams have all come true. I'm where I want to be with the bureau; having the career I've been planning since I did my stint in the military. I'm married to the one and only woman I've ever loved; my heart beats for her alone. Together we've made beautiful babies that I adore. I'm thirty-three years old and I'm complete.

Then one day, it all changes. Slate recruits me for a temporary assignment that is underneath the radar for a reason. The bureau hasn't sanctioned it as a priority, but Slate feels it is because of who is involved: Sue Ellen Reynard. Yeah, remember her?

Lindsey:

Our lives were perfect. Taz and I had everything we'd ever hoped for: family, careers and an everlasting devotion to one another. Suddenly nothing is the same. In a single moment, my biggest fear is realized by one phone call from Slate: an 'agent is missing'.

My agent; my Taz . . .

This is just the beginning of our long journey. Will things ever be the same again?

Excerpt
As soon as the nurse left, I had another visitor.

My wife.

Lindsey.

I hadn't seen her since the day she'd left in tears and my alleged younger sister had chewed my ass out for my boorish behavior.

"Hey," I said softly, giving her a smile. Hell, if I could choose only one thing from my past to resurface in my memory it would be anything or everything having to do with her. She was beautiful and it wasn't hard to see why I'd been drawn to her.

"Trace," she said, coming over to take a seat in the chair closest to my hospital bed. "You look better than you did the last time I was here."

Yeah. Trace is my real name. Learned that a week or two ago.

"It's been awhile," I replied. "I'm sorry if I scared you off, Lindsey. I'm trying like hell to remember."

"It's nothing you can help," she replied quickly, giving me a weak smile. "All we can do is work with what we have, I suppose."

She'd brought some photo albums with her. "I thought maybe we could look at some pictures together, that is, if you feel like it."

"Sure," I said, "My doctor recommended doing just that."

"Okay, well let's start with this one then," she said, pulling the one from the bottom. "We'll take this in chronological order, how's that?"

And she opened the album and began showing me pictures that had been taken five years prior. She pointed out my mother and father, her best friend Darcy who I recognized from her earlier visit with her husband--and my half-brother, Easton. I saw Slate in many of the pictures, along with his wife who was also Lindsey's mother. Very pretty. I could picture Slate with her.

"How did we meet?" I asked, and noticed a blush cross over her face.

"Well, I knew you because of Mom and Slate--but we actually didn't get involved with one another until after they got married. I…uh, I kind of got toasted at their reception. You were nice enough to offer me a ride home, and well…I threw up all over your truck."

I laughed at this and, for some reason, I loved the fact that given the choice, Lindsey could have provided a much more appealing story of how we met and I wouldn't have known the difference. Yet she put the truth out there, no matter how disgusting it was. "God, I hope I wasn't an ass about it."

She laughed too and it was music to my ears. "Not at all. You were actually very sweet about it. You took me back to your place, put me in the shower, gave me some of your clean clothes to wear, insisted I brush my teeth and gargle, and then put me to bed."

Please NOTE: For mature readers; graphic scenes/language

So Taz and Lindsey's story started from Love Plus One. As mentioned earlier, this is a stand-alone. If you haven't read the other one, you won't be lost but I think it's still nice to read their beginning in its entirety. Incidentally enough, that was just an ok read for me but I'm glad I read it. I know I'm gonna sound like a total cad for saying this just because of what happened to Lindsey near the end, but she didn't quite win me over. But Taz, oh Taz, he has my attention from the get-go. Just sayin...

So they went from marital bliss to practically being strangers and sorta' starting over again because of what happened to Taz. While Taz is recovering and Lindsey trying to hold the fort, they also had to make sure that their relationship stays intact. And as if that's not enough challenge, other things are at play that pose a threat without their knowledge. Seriously, how much trauma can this couple go through?

Their domestic life felt really natural and I love the heat between these 2! Lindsay did redeem herself in my eyes here, despite her challenges (or is it because of?). I felt her decisions were finally smart and I finally found empathy for her. Taz, well, I've always enjoyed his POV. I enjoy his banter with Slate.I like his inner thoughts. I like his alpha ways in all its yumminess:p
"Because this isn't a competition, baby. I am yours. I will always be yours..."
This was a really quick read, which tells me that I was engaged in the story. I think it's got the perfect ending for these 2 lovebirds.

About the Author
andrea smith.jpg
Stalk Her: Facebook | Twitter | Amazon  | Goodreads
I was born and raised in southern Ohio, and with the exception of a brief stint in Dallas, TX, have been an Ohioan most of my life. My dream has always been to write a novel, and back in the early eighties I tried to do just that, having been influenced by authors such as Kathleen Woodiwiss, Johanna Lindsey, Rosemary Rogers and Laurie McBain. I remember writing to all of them through their listed publishers, and the only response I received was from Johanna Lindsey (who lived in Hawaii at the time).

Ms. Lindsey advised me to continue with my dream; and to submit to various publishers again and again. Of course, at that time, publishing e-books yourself was not on the horizon; there were vanity publishing houses of course, but she advised me to avoid those.

So my dream was put on the back-burner for more than 25 years until June of 2012 when suddenly I no longer had a reason not to write a novel. My sons were grown; I found myself without a career (blessedly) and the creative juices flowed once again.

I finished my first novel, "Maybe Baby" in September of 2012; the next two books in the "Baby Series" titled "Baby Love" and "Be My Baby" were published in early 2013. I learned a lot in my first endeavor with self-publishing. I've made so many friends as a result that it is over-whelming.

In the spring of 2013, I had an idea for a different type of Alpha, and wrote Book #1 of the "G-Man" Series, titled "Diamond Girl." This book was well-received, and I followed it with Book #2, "Love Plus One." These are stand-alone books.

I am finally doing what I love and I sincerely appreciate the wonderful readers who provide feedback and take the time to comment. I hope that with each book, my writing has grown and improved as I strive to publish quality fiction.

“What the f*ck happened out here?” Danielle asked, her arm suddenly around my shoulders. I immediately felt better. Danielle and I balanced each other out perfectly—she was batsh!t crazy and insanely optimistic. Make that dangerously, recklessly optimistic. As for me, I spent nearly all my time focused on staying sane and getting ahead. That didn’t leave much time for things like actually living my life.

We’d met each other our senior year of high school, when she’d offered to drive me back and forth to town in her shiny new Jeep Wrangler. This spared me from the horror of sharing a battered school bus with every hormonal teen living in the greater Callup metropolitan area. After a particularly harrowing ride home in her car one night (long story short, it took us six hours to travel thirty miles and by the time we pulled into town, we had matching tattoos of chipmunks wearing scarves) I decided it was my job to keep her from accidentally killing herself.

In return, she pushed me to do fun things, reminding me at least once a week that I was only twenty-one and perhaps the fate of the universe didn’t literally rest on whether or not I balanced my checkbook to the penny. Along the way, she taught me how to do smoky eye makeup, how not to freak out when a guy asked me to dance, and how to “borrow” music off the Internet. (When I pointed out that “borrowing” music was stealing, she agreed and started using iTunes for her downloads. To finance this, she “borrowed” her dad’s credit card.)

“Well, apparently me and Blake no longer work here,” I said, leaning my head against her. “I don’t know if you’re fired or not.”

“F*ck that,” Danielle declared. “Eva can kiss my a$$. If you’re out, I’m out.”

“You weren’t even part of it,” I protested.

“I don’t care. You’re a much better waitress than I am. If she fired you, no way I’d last there anyway. Let’s go get drunk!”

RATING:

*Complimentary copy received from publisher via Netgalley*

I swear, Joanna Wylde keeps getting better and better with each book. I really really enjoyed this one.

We got a sneak peek of Puck in Reaper's Stand and now we have his story with Becca. They had an interesting start, to say the least. Then fast forward 5 years later.

Becca had a horrible past. She was able to escape it because of Puck. Puck did not have an easy past himself, only knowing the biker life. And because they had an "interesting" start, they don't know how to move forward with whatever it is between them, that pull. That is until they really have no choice but to move it forward as everything else becomes moot.

Becca is quite the lil fighter despite want she went thru. She can be cuckoo crazy with some of her thoughts but she's a good person overall. She frustrated me with the direction that some of her thoughts took her but just when I'm about to get annoyed, she manages to redeem herself. And she did make me laugh, what a hoot!

Puck is one badass alpha biker dude through and through. He gets Becca... He may not know how to express himself all the time but thanks to his own POV, you can tell he's really trying. He can be scary but, oh, can he make your inside tingle hehe... I loved how he struggled with his actions and feelings without being effeminate. Duh, he's a biker after all! It was funny at times which made him more appealing.

Their characters are younger than some of Joanna's MCs but given what they've gone thru, to use Joanna's words liberally, they have lived 10 lifetimes in a short amount of time, so they're really mature for their age. I loved the dynamics between these 2. It's got spirit, it's passionate, it's funny. I loved their chemistry, both in and out of the bedroom. There's such an ease to their interaction, witty and all, and nothing felt strained.

I really enjoyed how the other MCs in the other books popped in and out of this one. I really enjoyed Becca's friends. Heck, I even enjoyed the "villains" in a I-loved-that-I-hated-them kinda' way. I loved the geek-y pop culture reference that provided levity when needed. I loved how the story flowed, from start to that crucial point near the end, just like what I've come to expect from a Joanna read, and all the way to the end, including that cute epilogue.

Did I say how much I really enjoyed this one?
