Cole Masten. Abandoned by his superstar wife, Hollywood’s Perfect Husband is now Hollywood’s Sexiest Bachelor: partying hard and screwing even harder. Watch out Los Angeles, there's a new bad boy in town. Summer Jenkins. That’s me, a small town girl stuck in Quincy, Georgia. I cook some mean chicken and dumplins, can bluff a grown man out of his savings in poker, and was voted Most Friendly my senior year. We were from different worlds. Our lives shouldn’t have collided. But then Cole Masten read a book about my small town. And six months later, his jet landed on our dusty airstrip, and he brought Hollywood with him. From the start, I knew he was trouble. For our town. And for me. Sometimes, opposites just aren’t meant to attract..

EXCERPT

When the door to the production trailer burst open, it brought with it a wave of heat and beauty. Cole looked up from the storyboards and locked eyes with Summer, who blew across the room at him like a tornado on tilt. “There’s no love story between Ida and Royce.” Summer snapped, throwing down the script, pages fluttering down between them. In the small trailer, conversations stalled and he could feel the attention turn their way. “I’ve read the book. Three times!” It was good to know that someone had read the damn book. Cole glanced down at her temper tantrum of a mess and back up, raising his eyebrows mildly. “It’s a movie,” he said, turning back to the storyboards. “The writers are adding some excitement. It’s normal. You’d know that if you were in this business.” The dig was unnecessary but he couldn’t help it. This woman turned him into the devil. “I read the first script. The one you sent over with my contract. Ida and Royce hated each other. Why would Royce…” she snatched up a page from the ground and read out a line. “pushes Ida against the file cabinet and kisses her passionately.” She balled up the page and threw it down to the ground and he could see, in her eyes, the panic. Panic. An unexpected reaction. “We’ll use that,” Don made the dangerous move of stepping in, putting a soft hand on her shoulder. “You don’t understand. The passion from their hatred will make it hotter.” “No.” Summer said, her face hard, her eyes on Cole. “It doesn’t make it hotter. It makes it stupid.” “Aww… come on, Summer.” Cole chided, stepping closer, his hand reaching out to pull at her wrist. She fought him, yanking it back and the moment of their bodies meeting didn’t happen. He leaned down and whispered, right against her ear, the smell of her apple-scented lotion enough to make him want to empty out the production trailer right that moment. “Sure it does.” She jerked back and twisted away. “If he kisses me on camera I’m going to lose it.” She shot at Don, pointing an accusatory finger in Cole’s direction. “I know you will,” Cole laughed, crossing his arms to fight from reaching out. “You’ll fall apart under my mouth, baby.” Summer screamed in response, her hands thrown up in frustration, and spun to leave, her script left behind, the slam of the exit door loud in the full production trailer. “That went well,” Cole mused. He linked his hands and rested them on his head, rolling his shoulders back. Panic. She’d had panic in her eyes. F*ck. “What do you expect?” Don said. “You threw this on her without warning. I told you we should have met with her this morning, gone over the changes to prepare her. But no – you just wanted to dump it on her via call sheets and sides.” “Dump it on her? I was People’s Sexiest Man last year. She’s not mentally adjusting to a war camp for God’s sake. How hard is it to kiss me?” “It’s actually three kisses,” a dark-haired PA to his left pointed out. “And a grope.” He gave her a hard look and she withered a little. “I’ll go talk to her,” Don said. “Eileen, you shoot #4 and I’ll talk to Summer. I want to try to get #14 shot at eleven so let’s get our asses in gear and get this done.” “I’ll talk to her.” Cole stepped in. “You shoot #4 and I’ll talk to her.” “No,” Don snapped. “With my luck you two would make up and any authenticity to the scene would disappear. Just stay away from her and be ready at eleven.” Cole chewed on his cheek, then nodded. “Fine.” Don was right. He should stay away from her. Far. Far away.

REVIEW

RATING:

First things first, if you have read any of Alessandra’s work before, you know how good she is with o-ho moments and surprises. This one is not quite that. I would say it’s a bit of departure actually. Now if this is your first Alessandra read, then you’re good, no expectations then, right?:p Regardless, I think it will be or is quite a treat.

Cole is Hollywood royalty whose marriage fell apart, travelled to Summer’s hometown for necessary reasons on various levels. It’s an insta-hate/lust which made for very interesting initial interactions which built to an intense connection.

Summer is your small-town gal with simple needs. For what she experienced in that town, I’m actually surprised she stayed that long, but she’s a survivor, that one. She bottled in a lot which made me question her underachieving thoughts. But I knew I didn’t have to be in her shoes to get her. And whether it felt like she was just settling for me, I appreciated that those feelings didn’t extend to Cole. She knows her worth, she wasn’t intimidated by Cole and his status, and ultimately, she understood him.

Cole is your Hollywood persona who’s used to certain things until he realized things don’t quite operate the same outside of Hollywood. He’s got the financial means to do anything really but going thru what he went thru made him question a lot of things, including his feelings for Summer. At any rate, I don’t think his heart stood a chance when it came to Summer. Oh Cole! For all his Hollywood ego, there was such vulnerability to some of this thoughts, how can I not fall for him the way Summer did?!?

This is definitely one of those slow burn of a read but I certainly didn’t mind it. There was a lot of narrative, especially in the beginning. And this may not make sense but I found that despite the story not fully original and the story not having the usual surprise that I’ve come to associate with Alessandra’s writing, there is just something in her writing that made this story unique on its own, whether it's its pace or the way the words are strung along.

There were funny introspections/interactions that caught me off guard and I loved it. I got to see enough quirkiness that made Quincy, Summer’s hometown, somewhat a character of its own. And best of all, there’s the passionate exchanges.

(Big BONUS for other Alessandra fans: 3 words.... Brad F#@king DeLuca!!! *insert googly eyes*)

REVIEW: Social Media Series by JA Huss

If I remember correctly, Julie was one of the first few who actually incorporated social media in her story (at least from authors who are on my radar), and I thought, what could be better. Our lives now are all about social media (is it just me?) so why not romance with a social media aspect, right?

This is also a little different from Julie's other work as this was done serial-way. Each book is a novella, and like a true serial, ends on a cliffie note.

#Women
I f*ck them. I use them. I pay them off. I find another. My demands are never denied. My contracts are always signed. They submit to me. Willingly. Completely. Temporarily. This is how it's always been.
Until I saw that filthy tweet.
@VaughnAsher My bare pu$$y. Your tongue.#ThingsIThinkAboutToGetOff
"FilthyBlueBird" thinks she can tease me with hashtags and then hide behind a Twitter handle? She thinks I wouldn't be more than happy to #RockHerFilthyWorld? She's wrong.
Her online fantasy is about to collide with her public reality, and it's about to happen... now.

Review

RATING:

(Originally posted on Goodreads)

Interesting story revolving around social media. And I guess seeing that this is only the 1st in the series and the MC's are "face-to-face" the whole time, not a whole lot of social media interaction happening yet. But the actual interaction is interesting to say the least. I didn't dig some of it, esp the h's hot/cold rx. The H is quite the d-bag but at least he's aware that he is, I think, if that makes it more palatable. I did feel the tension leapt thru the pages. And I'm curious to find out more...

#WhatAD!ck
Vaughn Asher. I’ve stalked him relentlessly. I shaped and formed my lust into the perfect dirty hashtag…day after day… weekend after weekend. He was my prince. My fairy tale. My fantasy.
I gave him the best years of my online life and what did he do for me?

Ruined my social media experience one tweet at a time. That’s what.
MovieStar @VaughnAsher
@FilthyBlueBird #Fantastic #BackToNatureF*cking
#MissingSomething #You
And now #TheD!ckWhoIsVaughnAsher thinks he can weasel his way back into this filthy blue bird’s Twitter account? He’s wrong.
His public fantasy is about to collide… ah, f*ck it. He’s hot as hell, b!tches. I need more than a free sample. This time I want it all and I’ll do whatever it takes to get it.

This picks up right where Follow ended. You get a little more back story on the H. The h, well, I'm still figuring her out, but I do appreciate her candor with him as far as their arrangement is concerned. There's something about these 2 that I'm not fully getting yet and not letting me connect with them 100%. However, whatever 'it' may be is definitely not preventing me from enjoying their chemistry. (hashtag) Holy hotness!!!...

Well, well, I think the story has finally hit its stride! It got my attention from the very first sentence all the way to that eyebrow-raising last one.

I see how the H is growing and I thought all the self-doubting was quite endearing, what with him making sense of his feelings, trying to make it work with her and all. I'm really liking him!! #swoon The h... umm... hmm... yah, she frustrated me at times, but I know there's more to know, so we'll see...

And the way it ended, how can I not want to find out what's next!

Shoulda' listened better to myself and waited to read this when Profile is out, but nooooh... Effing cliffhanger!!!

And shoulda' known better about the twist(s), 'cause I realize that's just how JA rolls.

I'm not gonna touch the story as you just have to read it. You read Block hopefully, and it carries on here. You learn more about Grace, and her past with its potential impact. You see Vaughn try to be the 'prince' in Grace's version of fairy tale... sigh...

I'm actually less frustrated with Grace now, thank god. Yes, yes, I get her more, and I my heart did break for her... but... her range of emotions just switches too fast for me sometimes that it made the pacing off for me in certain parts... dont' mind me, that's just me. And granted, I happen to like **SPOILER** Sophie Kinsella **END OF SPOILER** too, so I guess Grace won points with that one...

But Vaughn, oh Vaughn, heart Vaughn, end of!

All the best fairytale princesses have the most horrific pasts. Mine just happens to be more horrific than most.

Fantasizing over Vaughn Asher was a dream. Meeting Vaughn Asher was a fairytale. Loving Vaughn Asher was my downfall.

The past is always there. Waiting. Waiting to expose you. Waiting to ruin you. Waiting to take you back.

Sometimes not even a prince can save you.

Holy crikey!!!!

Talk about nonstop action! Love it!

Grace did win me over in this bk. Loved her tenacity. And Vaughn? I was sold from the start, so heart him... Just all kind of sweetness, sigh... I think Felicity shone here. Would be really nice if she gets her story, and, oh, Conner too.

Don't really know what the last bk will bring. All I know is that I want it yesterday:D

(And if I haven't mentioned it before, Julie, your EOBS rocks! LOL)

*EOBS is Julie's "End of Book Sh!t" at the, you guess it, end of her every book. Rather than calling it "Acknowledgment", where's the fun in that after all, right? Fans like myself look forward to this as much as the story itself. It's entertaining on its own, seriously!

I just want my Grace back.

I want the girl I found sending me dirty tweets on Saint Thomas. I want the girl who reluctantly gave in to my charms and let me boss her around. I want the girl who sent me to my knees and made me imagine what her fairy tale would look like with me in it.
I just want to move on.
I want to plan the future and think about kids and preschools and college funds. I want everything she ever wanted, and I want us to make it happen together.

But the media needs more from us. More dirt. More pain. More payment for past transgressions.
You can’t change the past. And even though Grace is ready to put her demons to bed, mine are just starting to get restless. Because when you’ve silenced as many enemies as I have over the years, you know that secret won’t stay buried forever.

Review

RATING:

(Originally posted on Goodreads)

Glad to see Vaughn and Grace finally get their happy ending.

Vaughn was just perfect, I thought, despite his past and all. Swoon! And Grace recovered nicely. I didn't fully get the point of the conflict in this one and some of the things they withheld from each other, it felt unnecessary. But it's ok, because I got more Vaughn.

The last 10% cinched it for me. Fairy tale indeed!... le sigh...

Excerpt

(Warning: Graphic language)

“Where are you staying?”

“At my uncle’s apartment.”

“Come to my place.” He folded his hands on the table, leaned forward a little, his gaze focused, her appeal powerful as a riptide, ignoring the fact that what he was about to say was messing with his head. “I’ll kick out everyone else.”

“Everyone else? Meaning?” She didn’t lack confidence, and he was notorious for his casual sexual encounters.

For some reason he didn’t mind her impertinence. “Only male friends. I never allow women to stay with me.” He smiled. “Until now. So how about it?”

“Sure, I’d like that.” And suddenly the summer takes an interesting turn. So far the boys of summer had been only mildly interesting. “But not for long.” She wrinkled her nose. “I have to go back to school in a couple of weeks.”

Rafe suddenly went still; her little nose twitch reminded him of a child. “Just for the record,” he murmured, “how old are you?” People graduated college at any age; he had at nineteen.

“Worried?” Nicole flashed him a grin. “How much does it matter?”

He scowled. “It matters.”

“Or?”

“Or you’re gone.”

“Now neither of us wants that,” she said, amusement in the blue of her eyes. “Do we?”

He didn’t move a muscle, even his breathing quieted. “Don’t,” he said, very softly. “No games.”

Nicole’s voice was lush with provocation. “Really? I’ve heard you like games.”

“You heard wrong.” He held her gaze for a moment, then sighed. “Tell me your age or get the f*ck out.” Hand of fate or not, he didn’t do stupid.

“Twenty-two.” Her brows rose in perfect arcs.

“So, are we seeing blue skies and rainbows once again?” Honeyed sarcasm dripped from each word. “Or do I find someone else at this party to entertain me?”

Rafe’s smile slowly unfurled and his eyes took on a predatory glow. “You could try, I suppose. But you wouldn’t get out the door.”

“Oh dear, oh my, I do declare,” she lamented in playful parody. “Am I your captive?”

“You are.” Smoothly rising from his chair, he strode toward the door. “Now I’m going to lock the door, then f*ck you till morning.”

“And then what?”

Whoa. The unmistakable note of demand in her voice brought him to a stop. He turned. “I’m sorry, did you say something?”

She met his insolent gaze and smiled. “I said—and then what?… As in afterward.”

Audacious or foolhardy? Fascinating certainly. He winked. “Afterward, you can tell me your name. How’s that?”

She winked back. “I’ll think about it.”

He went very still. “Is this a contest?”

“I hope not,” she murmured, gazing at him from under her long, dark lashes. “I hope I get what I want.”

“Which is?”

“Do you need a list?”

“Do you know what you’re doing?” Unsure whether it was anger or lust igniting his senses, his voice took on a raspy edge and his golden gaze turned cold.

“I can’t answer that definitively, but right now it looks like your d!ck knows what it’s doing,” she noted, with a languid lift of her hand.

He looked at her for a moment. A woman had never taunted him before and he wanted to pick her up and shove his d!ck so far up her pu$$y he’d need a road map to get out.

“Don’t,” she said, very, very softly. “This could be really good… mind-blowing in fact. You have to know that.”

“F*ck you,” he whispered, shifting his stance enough to ease the pressure on his erection.

“Anytime… Just not that way, okay?”

He dragged in a ragged breath. “Don’t tell me what to do.”

She held his gaze, unflinching. “Nor you me.”

A smile slowly overcame his discontent as he held her contentious stare. “Why don’t we see?” he said very gently. “You might like it after all.” Then he reached back, turned the key in the lock, slid it into his pocket, and moved toward her.”
