Top 5 Romance Book Covers

I've talked about cover models in my romance reads, but I do want to point out that I'm not that shallow (I think) that those are the only things that catch my eyes. I also pay attention to covers that capture my attention artistically. No, there are no buffed tattooed dudes in these covers, but something about them just speak to me. What can I say, I guess I'm a cover whore... teehee...

Just as the case with those cover models, when I find a unique cover, it's enough that I pay more attention to the book, to see what it's about... Again, whether I buy it or not, and eventually read it or not, that's an entirely different discussion. But as you can see, I've read 4 of the 5 of the books you will see, and needless to say, I own them. So all I'm saying is that it makes a diff...

1.) Beg by CD Reiss
So began my love for all things CD!

VIA

2.) Tragic by JA Huss
During my initial foray to NA. Not only did the cover capture my attention, JA Huss also caputred with me her characters and introduced me to a new breed of H's:D (FYI: the newer edition has a different cover now)

VIA

3.) End of Day by Jewel E Ann
This is a trilogy that has such unique characters and plot.

VIA

4.) This is War, Baby by K. Webster
This is one dark read that got me on tenterhooks. There is something about the cover that just felt innocent and sinister all at once.

VIA

5.) In Me an Invincible Summer by Ryan Loveless AND Stygian by Santino Hassell
Ok, this is kinda cheating but I seriously couldn't decide O.o
I haven't read these yet even though I own them. I did fall in love with the covers the moment I saw them.

VIA

25843005
VIA
Hmmm... the more I look into my Goodreads shelf, the more I realize that there's quite a bit of them with covers that just grab me. I'm sure there'll be more that may surpass the ones above. Regardless though, it doesn't mean that I will love the above covers less.

Aren't they all purtee?

What grabs your eye when you look at book covers?

I proposed on our first date.
She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.
It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…
Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.
Finally, we were successful…
Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.
They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.
The retrieval of my wife and our family.

I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.

What started out as romance ended in hell.
His words turned to razor blades.
His kisses converted to fists.
His embrace became my cage.
His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I broke.

I hated him.
My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.

I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the day our savior arrived.

This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The transfer of my life and my family.

RELEASE BLITZ: Swear On This Life by Renee Carlino

  9781501105791

From USA TODAY bestselling author Renée Carlino (Before We Were Strangers), a warm and witty novel about a struggling writer who must come to grips with her past, present, and future after she discovers that she’s the inspiration for a pseudonymously published bestselling novel. When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J. Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isn’t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer. Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio. That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.   The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

During the winter we pretended our way through the classics, read every popular kid’s book and by spring of our sixth grade year, the spring of all the rain, we were ready to be outside and explore again. There was a creek about half a mile back from our houses, past the tree line. Because of all the rain that year, it had become more of a river with the strongest currents right behind where we lived. Every adult warned us to be careful, even my dead-beat dad would say, “You better use that big brain of yours and stay out of the creek. You want to go swimming, you can go to the pool in town.” Funny he would say that because the community pool was a seven-mile bike ride and it cost three dollars to get in. There was no way I was going unless Leila, Jax’s mom gave us a ride and even then, I would have to borrow the money to get in. Frankly, going to the town pool was a pipe dream. It became a myth to us, a fantasy like Disneyland or Europe. Jax and I would try to imagine what it was like to go there. “I bet they sell popsicles and popcorn and they probably have clowns too,” I said. It was a warm day; we had made a picnic in the weeds. I laid out my Toy Story sleeping bag I’d had from when I was a kid. Jax brought a jar of applesauce and I brought Fun Dip that my dad had
bought me at the 7-11. We mixed the fun dip into the jar and took turns eating spoonfuls.
“Community pools don’t have clowns, genius.”
“How do you know?” I said. “Because I just do.” “I bet there’s a high dive, like fifty feet in the air.” “Do you know how high fifty feet is? You would die hitting the water. The impact would kill you.” “You’re such a know-it-all, Jackson. Why can’t you let a girl dream? We’re never going to that pool because no one will ever take us, plus, it costs money, and last time I checked you weren’t making any.” He lay back on the blanket and propped his hands behind his head and closed his eyes. “I’m not a know-it-all, I just have cable. And as soon as I turn sixteen, I’m getting a job. I’ll pay for us to go to the pool. You’ll see, it’s just a big hole with water in it.” I never really stared at him until that day. His eyes were closed so I took the time to inspect every inch of him. I was so curious about his body. My own body was changing and I was terrified of it. Jax was getting taller. He was going to be tall like his father, but he looked more like his mother in coloring and features. Jax’s mom was French, so they had this creamy skin that looked sun-kissed year around and his brown hair and brown eyes had streams of gold running throughout it. He was letting his hair grow longer because he’d been watching some show on TV that took place in California. He said everyone in California had long hair. I was trying to grow my own unruly, brown locks out. I don’t know why, I always had it in a braid. Maybe because I thought I would go to California with Jax one day. We both yearned for more than weeds and corn. All the books gave us those silly ideas and filled our heads with things that might never be. I lay down beside him and stared directly into the sun. He turned on his side and propped his head on his elbow. “You’ll go blind doing that,” he said in a low voice. “Leave me alone.” “Why are you in such a bad mood? You PMSing?” “What do you know about it?” “A lot.” “I doubt that and even if I were, it’s beyond rude to talk to me about it.” I hadn’t started my period yet but I wasn’t going to tell him that.

Excerpt

Slowly, his gaze dropped back to his hands resting over his legs, and his eyes closed. I felt his shoulders rise and fall with his breaths. When his eyes opened again, he turned where he sat and placed his hands on my hips. “I hate what I did,” Branford said, his eyes closed tightly as he touched his forehead to mine, “and to discover now how pointless it had been. To know it was not necessary…it makes me…makes me want…” I slid my fingers up the tense muscles of his arm, over his shoulder and jaw until I cupped his face with my hands. “It is behind us now,” I told him. “We have another chance. I may still bear your child.” “You will,” he said with conviction as his mouth covered mine suddenly. His words became muffled against my lips as he angled me backwards against the mattress. “You will have my child…no one else. No one…ever…I swear…” “But what if I cannot—” “Hush,” he said, and his mouth covered mine again. “But we do not know—” Again he cut off my words with his mouth. His tongue touched my lips for a moment before he moved slowly to my chin and up my jaw. “I will never, never touch another woman,” Branford whispered with hot breath into my ear. “I would die before I ever let that happen again. It almost killed me, knowing what I was doing to you…” “I know, my Branford,” I replied. “I hated it…hated what I was doing…hated myself for not knowing what else to do…” “Hush,” I whispered, repeating the word he had used with me many times before. My lips trailed over his neck. “No more. It is only us now…” “How can you not hate me?” He wrapped his arms tightly around me, and his body stilled completely atop mine. “After so many mistakes and so many failures, how can you still trust me to provide for you and keep you safe? How can you even believe the words that emanate from my mouth?” Our eyes met, and I could see the sorrow darkening the green of his irises. “I love you, Branford,” I reminded him. “When I fell in love with you, I knew you were not a perfect man. I would not stop loving you for making mistakes, especially those you believed were right at the time. I only want you with me—loving me. I do not expect perfection.”

RATING:

Oh Shay, Shay, Shay… truth be told, I was ready to cuss and curse you for the events in this book, but you gave me those last few lines, so all is right with the world again BAHAHA

Brantford and Alexandra just managed to get over a major hurdle and things seem to start to settle down; but of course not! They’re finally getting to a point that they want but Brantford still has his enemies and there are more at stake now with Alexandra’s condition.

Alexandra definitely is now showing her feisty side. And Brantford’s delicious alpha tendencies are in full swing, all for the love of his life.

That ending? Gah!!! I want to see those evil people get their full comeuppance in the final book, grrr…

One more book to go!

Blurb
New York Times bestselling author Joanna Wylde returns to the “wild and raw”* world of the Reapers MC with the story of Gage and Tinker…

The club comes first.
I’ve lived by those words my whole life—assumed I’d die by them, too, and I never had a problem with that. My Reaper brothers took my back and I took theirs and it was enough. Then I met her. Tinker Garrett. She’s beautiful, she’s loyal, and she works so damned hard it scares me sometimes . . . She deserves a good man—one better than me. I can’t take her yet because the club still needs me. There’s another woman, another job, another fight just ahead.
Now she’ll learn I’ve been lying to her all along. None of it’s real. Not my name, not my job, not even the clothes I wear. She thinks I’m nice. She pretends we’re just friends, that I’ve still got a soul . . . Mine’s been dead for years. Now I’m on fire for this woman, and a man can only burn for so long before he destroys everything around him.
I’m coming for you, Tinker.
Soon.

Review

RATING:

I couldn’t be happier to have won an ARC of this book thru the Shh... Summer Buzz Book Event on Goodreads.

For a first Barbara read, it was definitely a winnerJ

Aden has been handed a unique opportunity to redeem himself. When his fate couldn’t be decided after his death, he was sent down again to the world of the living to prove (or disprove) things to the people who will decide his ultimate destination. For someone who felt like there’s nothing redeemable about him, turns out there may be some hope, thanks to meeting Brody.

Brody has been trying to move forward and make something of his life after someone messed up his mind. For someone who’s floundering, turns out there may be a shot to a better future, thanks to “running into” Aden.

I love the self-deprecating and dry humor that both Aden and Brody possess. It definitely added levity but it also made things more heartrending in my head. There are a lot of potential triggers in this book, so be warned. The things they went thru, they were vile and despicable. My heart broke for these 2. Curiously enough, as dark as their pasts were, it felt more sad than gloomy. Even more curious is the hopefulness despite the darkness. I think that’s Barbara ability to convey the strength of the MCs even when the MCs themselves don’t acknowledge it. Isn’t that what inner strength is all about? And I think Barbara’s words were chosen carefully enough that what could have easily led to cheese-dom just felt real and sincere.

Their union is smokin’ hot, but even hotter, I thought, were their kisses. There is so much emotion expressed in such a tiny act… le sigh...

I guess there’s a reason why I’ve been keeping an eye for a while now on Barbara’s books. Well, I mean, I guess I see now why a lot of friends on Goodreads are fans of her work. I think I am now tooJ
