REVIEW

Oh boy, when I say I had all kinds of feels for this one, I meant all kinds of feels!

I definitely liked this more than the first book, It Ain't Me, Babe. It’s definitely darker than the first. You’ve been warned. I swear, I think I even hurled a bit in my mouth during some of the scenes. To say that I cringed at times is an understatement. I’ve read others that are just as dark or even darker but the issues touched on this story will break your heart and not easy to swallow.

Ky and Lilah, barring looks aside, cannot have been any more an unlikely pairing, coming from one extreme end to another in the lifestyle spectrum, so to speak. Yes, they’re just like Styx and Mae, in a way in the first book, but with one huge difference, ie, Mae’s attitude about the whole cult thing. Because Lilah cannot be any more indoctrinated than she already was and Ky cannot be any more unapologetic about his biker ways, Ky and Lilah’s journey are full of strife right from the beginning. On the one hand, you have someone afraid of her own shadow and on the other hand, you have someone who’s not afraid of anything. I was worried how Tillie will handle the progression but I thought she made it work. Yes, a bit OTT in some parts but it didn’t feel contrived at all.

In thinking about Lilah’s character, I had to constantly remind myself of her past to make me not lose sight of her perspective. She made me wanna bang my my e-reader on my head a few times but I can’t help but feel bad for her at the same time. She was a doormat but she questions everything. She frustrated me but she also broke my heart… sigh…

Ky is a complete man-whore whose ego rivals the size of a stadium when it comes to his looks, skills and “skills”. He grabs life by its horn. He was a pig but he made me laugh. He was an a$$ but he made me care… sigh…

The story is gritty, sometimes bordering on stereotype if you think of all the films you’ve ever seen on bikers and cults but I was hooked and it made me feel all kinds of stuff. I can’t quite my fingers yet on what it is about Tillie’s writing that feels different in my head. Regardless, I know I’ll keep reading.

Coming down the line is Rider’s story who I personally thought turn into this weasel of a man in this book who was like a lost confused teen in a man’s clothes, or tunic I guess, in his case. I’m curious to see how Tillie will redeem him.

Oh but coming right next is Flame and Maddie’s story. Flame!!!  He’s so OTT, he’s creepy and he scares me but he intrigues me and I see so much potential. I wanna read his story, for sure!

 EXCERPT

Ky stalked toward me, his white shirt tight over his taut torso, his blue denim pants loose on his legs. As he approached, he ran his hand through his messy long hair, chewing slowly on a small, thin wooden stick gripped between his teeth.
I could not speak, could not think, could not breathe. My free hand reached behind me, resting on a shelf to keep me upright. The smoky smell of Ky washed over me. My heart was frantic and my blood rushed through my veins.
Kys nostrils flared as he approached, his blue gaze drinking in the sight of my modestly covered frame. He did not stop three steps in front of me as the brothers were required to do in the commune. He did not keep an appropriate distance, as a man should with a woman in public. Oh no, instead, he closed in until his impressive height towered over my head, his chest pressing flush against my breasts.
I could feel his intense gaze. I squeezed my eyes shut, too afraid to face this devilish man. I lost all composure when he was near. He was crude, grossly promiscuous, and although my mind warned me of his evil and seductive nature, my heart betrayed my virtue and strived to have him close. His beautiful face and body tempted me to take him into my body. He was my very own forbidden fruit, one of which I had to keep far far away.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Amazon & USA Today Best Selling Author, Tillie Cole, is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother -- a farmer's daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.

Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.

Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved forty miles north to the 'Toon', Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended Newcastle University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. Tillie, regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven 'proper mint' and 'lush' years.

One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on her much loved and treasured Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, "D'you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book." Several months later, after repeating the same tired line at the close of another completed story, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and "just bloody do it!" For the first time in eleven years, Tillie actually took his advice (he is still trying to get over the shock) and immediately set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination.

Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed theyre her weakness!). She also has a serious side (believe it or not!) and loves to immerse herself in the complex study of World Religions, History and Cultural Studies and creates fantasy stories that enable her to thread serious issues and topics into her writing -- yep, there's more to this girl than profanity and sparkles!

After six years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have finally given up their nomadic way of life and settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap wearing, Stetson-sporting cowgirl... Ye-haw!

Review: Reapers MC Series by Joanna Wylde

Motorcycle club or biker romance is a romance sub-genre I've gotten into recently. Firstly, I know nothing of that lifestyle/subculture(?) in real life other than what I see in movies or hear in news. So I really have no strong views nor opinions to offer. Having said that, I do find it fascinating when it's put in a romanticized fictional setting. Whether it's from direct knowledge or extensive research as is the case for Ms. Wylde (if I understand correctly), or not, I take the stories for what they're worth, love stories, that is.

Instead of posting individual reviews for each of the book in the series, I thought I'd put it all together in one review. I figured I have read all the books in the series, so why not. Each book is a standalone as it focuses on different characters but each book does enhance the others. Pardon the length of the post, but here goes...

RATING: 4/5 napkins

(All reviews originally posted on Goodreads)

Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.
But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.
Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.
Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.Maybe.

Ms. Wylde may agree or not, but I see traces of Motorcycle Man (by Kristen Ashley)  in this one but that's only a good thing in my head:) The characters are developed enough. Didn't completely buy the connection b/w the H&h in the beginning nor did I enjoy the texting interaction (fortunately, that part was short) but as the story progressed, the heat is there, for sure. Got a strong enough h and swoon-y enough H. Although I might not have been 100% emotionally connected at all times, but bottom line, I enjoyed the story, I liked the build-up to the events and I loved how bad-ass the h turned out for her man in the end, all adding up to a nice ending. Def looking forward to Reaper's Legacy now.

Reaper's Legacy is a raw and intensely erotic tale in Joanna Wylde's Reapers Motorcycle Club series.
Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart-and her virginity-to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn't have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach's step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he's never forgotten.
She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious-her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach's a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah's only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands-with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club-to give them a better life.
Living with outlaw bikers wasn't Sophie's plan for her son, but Ruger isn't giving her a choice. He'll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she'll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way.

Ok, I definitely liked this better than Reaper's Property. For starters, no awkward texting (not sure why I got so hung up on that itty-bitty thing in the first book but I did:o), so that's 1 plus for this book already.

So why the same rating?

Well, I liked Ruger. He was an a$$ at times but he was hot:p and at least he was honest about his feelings from the beginning and I realized it was just a matter of time for him to process things. I love how he's always there for Sophie and her son.

Now Sophie, she was just ok. She did get on my nerves at times. It's one thing to go back and forth with your feelings but at some point, c'mon, just make up your friggin mind! So the hot and cold feelings did get tedious a bit but not to a point that I disliked her.

It had its funny moments; Sophie and some of her inner musings, Ruger and his sarcasm, Kimber without her filters.
Some parts felt rushed, some parts made me go aww... in the end, a nice satisfying MC read... For sure, I will read the next in the series.

Via

Liam "Hunter" Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil's Jack, he knows his duty. He'll defend his club from their oldest enemies-the Reapers-using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers' president has a daughter who's alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.
Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club's president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger-a man who isn't afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn't afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he's The One.
Or so she thinks.

So we finally get Em's story, the h born into the MC lifestyle, and Hunter's, the H taken under the wings of a rival MC. There was a reference made about Romeo & Juliet, I suppose this is the MC version. Their story was told in two parts. If you have read the previous one in the series, then you know how the first part unfolded only this time, it's told from Em and Hunter's POV. And the second part is them moving forward from that experience.

This has got to be my fave in the series, so far. And that really surprised me. Why? For starter, Hunter and Em are young characters and young characters tend to be more miss than hit for me. But definitely not these ones. I really like these 2 young uns, can't tell you how much. Something about these 2 just felt real and realistic.

Em is one tough cookie. She gets it, being born into that lifestyle and all. I loved having a quick glimpse of her as a young teen and hearing her thoughts [SPOILER ALERT: like when she was convinced she was going to marry Ruger, too cute! END OF SPOILER]
. And loved how she looked after Hunter. She is equally as strong a character as Hunter.

Hunter is just delish for words, swoooon!!! LOL He's romantically stunted but whether he understood his feelings or not, I say he was romantic in his own way. He said asinine things yet I couldn't not like him. And loved how he took care of her.

Their chemistry is believable, and off the chart. Their interactions were real, witty, honest and funny. And for what it's worth, their text convos definitely made up for Horse & Marie's (from Reaper's Property), which bugged me for some reason.

If I had a beef, a strand of a meat really not even thick enough to get stuck b/w teeth, that would be the sometimes confusing POV switch and some redundant parts/words, and I wish I'd seen more of the other Reaper H's. But hey, at least, we're getting Picnic's story next, yay!

A day after finishing this, and I still can't get over how much I enjoyed this one...

As Reapers Motorcycle Club president, Reese “Picnic” Hayes has given his entire life to the club. After losing his wife, he knew he’d never love another woman. And with two daughters to raise and a club to manage, that was just fine with him. These days, Reese keeps his relationships free and easy—he definitely doesn’t want to waste his time on a glorified cleaning lady like London Armstrong.
Too bad he’s completely obsessed with her.
Besides running her own business, London’s got her junkie cousin’s daughter to look after—a more reckless than average eighteen-year-old. Sure she’s attracted to the Reapers’ president, but she’s not stupid. Reese Hayes is a criminal and a thug. But when her young cousin gets caught up with a ruthless drug cartel, Reese might be the only man who can help her. Now London has to make the hardest decision of her life—how far will she go to save her family?

First, I want to say, for what it's worth, that I think this series just got better by the book, and that I'm glad she saved the best, IMO, for last.

So we finally got Picnic's story, the leader of the pack. Both Picnic and London are "mature" characters so for readers like myself, they're more relatable characters (yes, I'm aging myself). Picnic, I think, is as bada$$, alpha and hawt as they come. London is very maternal, funny as heck with her inner thoughts, and a smart "civilian" who made stupid decisions in the name of independence and false sense of her knowledge of how the "darker side" of society operates.

I did have a slight issue with Picnic, in the beginning [SPOILER ALERT: doing the deed with another woman while London was under the same roof, albeit the relationship has not quite started yet END OF SPOILER]. I had to remind myself that Picnic and the rest in his world does not necessarily walk the "straight and narrow" and as judgmental as that may sound, that was the only way I can reconcile that in my head. Needless to say, this is a matter of personal taste. Oh but the chemistry b/w these 2 feels real and sizzling!

I loved how the prologue immediately turns things upside down. I liked how I got a glimpse of the other MC's in this series. A new character is introduced whose story will be in Silver Bastard. Definitely looking forward to that one. And I equally liked the epilogue which showed how things went for some of the characters and it opened up so much possibilities... Oh, Joanna, if I haven't said it before, a fan here for sure!

EXCERPT REVEAL (Part 2): Ripped by Katy Evans

Well, how about starting the week right and get another EXCERPT REVEAL, eh?  How fun, no?

Please enjoy!

ripped excerpt reveal 128.jpg
Sneak Peek Excerpt
The big dose of reality hits me when I wake up and he is sprawled, in all his muscular glory, across my hotel bed. It takes a second for me to remember that I, uh . . . I let Mackenna stay over?
I groan and slap my palm against my forehead. Fuck. Why why why does he weaken my willpower? The mattress squeaks as he shifts in bed, one arm reaching out as he groans in his sleep and seems to search for me. I roll away quickly and watch his hand settle on a pillow.
“Mackenna,” I say, toeing his side with my foot. “Mackenna!” I hiss.
He rolls around and sits up, and thank god the covers are halfway around his waist, because if I see one more inch of bare flesh I might explode from the heat spreading through me. I feel myself blush even deeper when his muscles bulge as he pushes himself up with his arms. His eyes adorably heavy, he blinks to adjust to the light, his mouth as perfect and generous as it was yesterday. And then he looks at me. That gaze is softer silver in the morning, not as sharp or as intimidating, almost . . . intimate when he sees me. Glimmering playfully.
And too late, I realize why he’s fucking grinning. My T-shirt got caught on the waistband of my panties. And he’s taking me in, in one quick sweep. “Well, fuck, someone woke hungry this morning,” he says, his voice bedroom sleepy as he looks at me, and I grab the pillow to cover myself.
“I’m not hungry,” I say.
“I was talking about me. Come over here.”
“No, Mackenna! Come on. Get out of my room already. I told you to leave!”
He grins and gets up, and I toss the pillow and flush as I pull down my T-shirt while he heads to the bathroom. It only takes him a minute to come out. Not enough to comb all my fingers through the tangles in my hair. If I were into that and cared what the asshole thought. Which I don’t.
His eyes run up the length of my legs, continue from the hem of my T-shirt to my neck, then land on my head. “Leave your hair, it looks all right,” he says huskily, stopping to loom before me.
Heat flows through my body as he looks down at me with blatant need. What is wrong with him? With us?
“Nothing’s wrong,” he murmurs.
“I said that out loud?” I groan.
“You’ve been . . . vocal, all night. I like it.”
God. I dreamed. I dreamed . . . I’m not even sure what. I dreamed about the closet again. I dreamed we were in bed. I dreamed he tried to kiss me, and when I turned away, he set a thousand shivery kisses up and down my neck.
The memory makes me flush cherry red. Did that happen during the night? By the intimate way he looks at me, I think he wanted inside me real bad. I didn’t let him, thank god. He fingers the collar of my tee, then watches me as he slowly drags his finger up my neck, his thumb caressing my bottom and top lip. Even though his hold is loose and he’s not physically holding me down, I feel trapped. His gaze alone holds me motionless.
He used to look at me with this same proprietary gleam when he was my boyfriend. My secret boyfriend, who nobody knew about . . . except me. I guess, in the end, my mom knew.
But while the secret lasted, we hid in the janitor’s closet in school and made out until I could hardly walk, my legs unsteady as I headed for class with his taste in my mouth, the scent of his soap clinging to my clothes.
I’m fighting the urge to smell his neck now. It’s a war to just stand here motionless, tracing every inch of his masculine face with my eyes when I want my fingers to do the same. The years become nothing.
The hum between us is just like in the old days, when I was the center of his galaxy. When the girls in school would stare longingly at him when he walked past my locker, having eyes only for me. Sometimes, when the halls were vacant enough, he quickly leaned over me and kissed the back of my ear and every part of my body, from my toes up to the back of my ear. I’d grow hot, and the place between my legs would start pulsing.
Too easily I remember coming home and squealing.
Me—squealing.
I would play love songs, only to replay the words he said to me and the ways he touched me. I would shower, eat, and sleep Mackenna Jones. . . .
But deep down, my mother’s bitterness and my father’s infidelity poisoned me. I kept all these feelings to myself—kept them from my mother so she wouldn’t take Mackenna from me. But because I didn’t want to lose him, because I feared it wasn’t real, I also kept my feelings from him, and now I’m used to saying nothing. Keeping it bottled up.
Why do I feel like I’m about to burst now?
“Don’t, Kenna,” I say when he uses his thumb to open my lips. He stands dangerously close—his height, his breadth, his size, his do-me-now-woman sex appeal intimidating the hell out of me.
He grins wickedly and strokes a hand over my hip.
“Why not?”
“Because it’s not going to happen,” I say breathlessly.
“Yeah, it will.” His smirk says, It definitely will.
He pats my butt slowly, and the familiar way he brushes his lips over mine brings my temper to a boil. Who does he think he is? Does he think because we made out by mistake he gets to play my boyfriend? When I growl and slap his hand away, he chuckles and heads back to the bathroom.
Soon I hear the shower, the sound of the water slapping his delicious man-flesh. Then I hear him hum a tune, a tune I’ve never heard before. My chest moves when I remember he used to do that when we were teens. God, no, stop thinking of those moments. It hurts. Truly it does. Think of the bad ones. When he left. When he left me on my own after making me need him and believe I couldn’t live without him.
Refusing to get all sappy with memories, I grab my phone and think of Melanie.
She’s probably at the office, missing the delightfully bitter morning company that is me.
I quickly text, I kissed him
Every second I wait for her answer, I feel worse and worse, not only about the closet incident but also about falling asleep with him around. When I woke up, the bastard was almost spooning me.
Melanie: What?
Me: I kissed the bastard! He spent the night. Oh god!!!!! This is suicide!
Melanie: Why? Was he into it? You know what they say about where there was once fire . . .
Me: He was into the kissing, into using me for his selfish reasons and I was selfish too.
Melanie: So what’s the problem?
Me: The problem is he’s going to think he WON!
And he will. He really, really will, because he’s so full of himself I’m surprised he fits inside this building.
