Tender is the first word that comes to mind when I was trying to think of a word to describe Nia and Reeves' story. It's a story about healing and moving forward, about getting another shot of happiness, about trusting your emotions, about closure and fresh start.

In the beginning, I was worried as I found myself only half engaged with the story and I couldn't fully connect with the characters. I don't even really know why. I'm thinking perhaps it was the way the sequence of events were laid out. Maybe? Then I felt that some of the events were just superfluous, like the minor scare somewhere in the middle. It's as if the characters don't have enough to deal with in their heads. Also, I wasn't quite getting the degree of angst the characters were going thru, nor the undeclared feelings between the 2 at some point. But I really wanted to keep reading because I thought the characters were likable enough so I did. 

And I'm glad I did. It was nice to see the relationship progress for starter. I started appreciating the little things like Scrabble;) I started getting the why's and I eventually bought into the emotions. I got it! Their past made them who they are. Their past was no laughing matter. They're about issues that are hard to deal with and very sensitive in nature and how to come out of that intact is no small feat. The fact that they have become each other's relief, escape, hope and everything else that's good, I think that's just a beautiful thing...

REVIEW: All or Nothing Series by CC Gibbs

I talked very briefly about Dominic Knight in one of my Top 5 posts, and I realized I haven't posted my reviews of the series that bore Dominic...

MY REVIEW

Finally, I meet Dominic and Kate! Can't help but to think of this along the lines of FSoG in terms of bajillionaire swoonalicious H. But it is a different story on its own.

Kate, for a young h, is pretty decent. She's got spunk. Unnecessary sometimes but I get it. Just when she's about to annoy me, she displays some self-awareness, which I appreciate. And Dominic definitely should belong up there in bbf list! ♥ him to pieces!

Love the witty interaction. Everything's OTT from the display of luxuries to the smexy times, but it's all good! This is one seriously hot read! *grins* 

The 3rd-person POV took a bit of getting used to, I admit, but at least it gave me the feeling of being in all the characters' heads. Some parts caught me off guard in its speed, like walking downhill on a really steep hill and you don't realize until you're almost at the bottom that you were almost speed-walking due to gravity. Does that make sense? That's just me, so pls pay no heed.

The story's obviously not finished so it leaves you with not quite a cliffie but more like "To be continued..."

MY REVIEW

This picked up shortly after where All He Wants ended. 

I seem to have less patience for Kate this time around regarding her obstinate attitude, it almost felt petulant at times, but no, I don't think she'll annoy me to the point that I won't like her. I get it. Now, Dominic! Dominic just continues to rack points in my head, swoooon!!! 

So this is mostly about them trying to carve a niche for each other given their lifestyle and history (ok, mostly Dominic's). Still loving their banter. Then you get hit with a WTF event around the last 20% along the OTT line. Btw, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop come book 3. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

This was going to be a 4-★ read at the most, but as I head towards the ending, Dominic def made up for that 0.5 ★, and even enough to bump it up. Just saying...

Cannot wait for the 3rd one!!!

MY REVIEW

This was a beautiful conclusion to Dominic and Katherine's story. It started right where All He Needs ends and I thought the story as a whole has no major highs or lows since the focus was mostly on them 2 dealing with their feelings... I think...

It took me a while to finish this as I was frustrated with Kate in the first 3rd of the story. I get it, her condition and all, and what she was going thru, but that's not the Kate I've come to appreciate, what with her annoying indecisions to boot . So bec of that, I took a hiatus from the book.

But get this, the moment I picked it up again, I realized had I read a few more pages, I would've carried on just like that. By the halfway point, I was completely sucked in. Granted it was a sad event, but CC was able to make me care again, esp for Kate. I thought the emotions were raw, sincere and real, appropriate of the situation. *sad face* And as Dominic and Kate try to recover from that situation, I wanted to see them move forward as badly as they did. Which is what consisted the rest of the story. It's domesticated without the craziness from the early part of their relationship and it's alright, it has to settle down and mature at some point, just like any normal relationship.

Throughout this, I have to point out that THE entire reason for me to read is Dominic. Oh, Dominic... le sigh... He's like the ultimate alpha H. Can't fully explain it, but he hit all the right romance buttons for me, just saying...

And I think I can finally say that I get CC's writing style. I suppose she can't fully get rid of her historical romance voice in her contemporary romance writing, but you know what, it's all good. CC, if you keep giving me H like Dominic, I'll keep reading *chuckles*  

Seriously, if you're looking a bajillionaire hero who has more money than he knows what to do with, uses his resources to make anything happen (as in anything), confident bordering on arrogant, demanding yet patient, controlling yet generous, knows how to please her heroine, only has eyes for her heroine and all else be damned, then you can definitely add Dominic to your list... just saying... teehee...

Oh AJ, AJ, AJ...

I gotta say I was a lil worried reading the first few pages because AJ has always been painted the boy-next-door good guy who does everything right and and is perfect on paper, and for me to see his "wild" side was quite a leap in my head and I even wondered if it's really necessary since I thought there is nothing wrong with boy-next-door type anyway in the first place. So I'm glad I just kept reading 'cause I then I saw what AJ's "wild" side is and is it scrumptious or what! LOL

Brett was def the right H for AJ, or just the right H, period. Brett is the opposite of AJ. The bad girl trying to reign in her "wild" side so she can be the gal who does everything right and will look perfect on paper, so to speak.

I didn't quite fully buy the "wild" that was either in her or trying to get out of him. And I did feel a lil detached from AJ's back story, as sad as that was. But I really liked both characters. I liked their interaction, their chemistry, and both their personality. 

Best part was the Donnely scene, priceless!!

He flashed that boyish smile she was growing accustomed to. “All right. Ask me.”

She knit her brows. “Ask you what?”

“To be your pretend boyfriend. Isn’t that what this heart-to-heart has been leading to?”

Brett faltered. “Actually, I was only going to invite you to the barbecue. I figured a few days after that, I can just tell them I dumped you.”

Those green eyes sparkled. “Bullshit. They’d never believe it.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m f**king awesome, Brett. You’d never dump me.”

“Gee, it’s good to know you don’t suffer from any confidence deficiencies.”

“Seriously, it would look too suspicious if you announce out of the blue that we broke up. Besides...” The twinkle in his eye turned to smoky promise. “We have the perfect opportunity here, and I’m not about to pass it up.”

“What opportunity?” she said slowly.

“To turn this one-night stand into a several-nights stand.”

AJ smiled again, and a dimple she hadn’t noticed before appeared in his chin. 

Sweet Lord, the guy was unbelievably cute.

No, he wasn’t cute. He was sexy. And she’d be lying through her teeth if she said the idea of sleeping with him again wasn’t incredibly appealing.

As if he’d read her mind, his voice grew low and husky. “You still want me as much as I want you.”

“Oh, do I?” she mocked.

“Don’t play games, angel. We both know it’s true.” He paused. “Your dad is giving you an answer at the end of the month, right?”

She nodded warily.

“That gives us three and a half weeks to keep doing what we’re doing.” There was no mistaking the reckless glint in his eyes.

“And what exactly are we doing?”

“Having fun. Making each other come.”

She ignored the hot shiver that traveled up her spine. “And then what?”

This is now Reed and Darcy's story and what a yummy read! 

I admit, it was a little weird, with Darcy being the ex of one of Reed's best friends, like too-close-for-comfort weird. But I thought Ella did just fine giving us the history of Reed's feelings for Darcy which I totally bought. And I thought Ella also did just fine with the chemistry between those 2, hot dang!

Reed, with all his alpha actions is just adorable with his thoughts, and I thought Darcy is a pretty cool chick. Mature actions from mature adults who, whether they like it or not, has this incredible attraction between them. Until of course the conflict near the end, which I thought was a tad lame, hence a star off, sorry. But I must say, at least even that was handled maturely by the characters...

Oh, Reed, you dirty talkin' you!... sigh...

And now, on to AJ's story, One Night of Trouble.

“Stall as long as you want. I ain’t going anywhere, Darce.”

His deep, razor-sharp voice snapped her from her inappropriate ogling. Fortunately, he didn’t seem to notice she’d been checking him out. His expression displayed a cloud of displeasure mingled with steely determination, leaving no doubt as to how serious he was about cockblocking her tonight.

Or was it vagina-blocking for girls? She wasn’t sure.

“You’re being totally unreasonable,” she said, raising her voice over the music. “I’m not seeing AJ anymore, which means it’s not considered cheating if I happen to meet someone I like.”

“Don’t care. Won’t be happening on my watch.”

God. He wasn’t going to back down.

Cut your losses, girl. You’re not the one-night-stand type, anyway.

The defeated voice in her head was spot on. Hopping into bed with strangers wasn’t something she indulged in very often. Or ever.

Darcy stifled a sigh. Maybe this had been a mistake from the start. A stupid, spur-of-the-moment decision brought on by her break-up with AJ, which, in all honesty, had seriously bummed her out. Not because she’d lost the love of her life or anything, but because their relationship had been so lacking it only highlighted everything she’d been missing. Everything she craved.

Fun. Laughter. Excitement.

Passion.

Yep, full circle, right back to passion.

“C’mon, quit being a brat.”

She felt herself being tugged, blinking to find Reed’s fingers curled over her forearm. 

His hand was big and warm, and utterly impersonal as he guided her to the dance floor.

Darcy swallowed her anger as they maneuvered through the crowd. Fine, if he wanted to act like a macho jerk and be her shadow, then she’d let him. Clearly passion wasn’t on the table anymore, but fun and dancing were still up for grabs, and she might as well get something out of this botched evening. Though maybe just the dancing part. After all, fun and Reed Miller didn’t exactly go together.

The sultry beat pounding out of the DJ’s turntables immediately snaked its way into Darcy’s blood, and her body responded of its own volition. AJ had hated to dance. Poor guy had no moves, either, but his best friend didn’t seem to share that affliction.

To her surprise, Reed wasted no time yanking her toward him. He rested one hand on her hip and began to dance to the pulsing, decadent rhythm as if he’d done it a hundred times before.

His head dipped to her ear, his warm breath fanning over her neck. “Why is your dress so short?” he rasped.

She stiffened at his disapproving tone, glancing down at the silky green dress that nearly reached her knees. “It’s not that short. Look around us—half these girls are practically naked.”

“Half these girls aren’t you.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” she demanded.

Rather than answer, he brought his other hand into play, running it up and down her back as his hips rotated in a slow, addictive rhythm.
