Truth or Beard
by Penny Reid
Winston Brothers #1
Publication Date: July 23, 2015
Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!
Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life. His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her… But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order. Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?

Review
Can I just say how much I love the Winston brothers?!?! As a clan, I thought they totally stole the show!!! And Cletus, I just heart that one!!!
I digress...this is Duane and Jessica's story. They grew up together. Jessica has always had a crush on Duane's twin brother, Beau, but it's always been Duane who's had a thing for Jessica. Jessica may not have known that immediately, but Duane certainly didn't waste time to make that fact known to Jessica.
Their story is such an adorable story. It's a small town love story that I find appealing, being the city girl that I am. It's oozing with such charm, both the setting and the characters, that you can't help but fall in love with everything.
I love Jessica's idiosyncrasy. She's honest to a fault, and just so sincere. Interestingly enough, I get why she wants to accomplish the things she wants. I do admit, her quirky speak and the over-cuteness rubbed me slightly off, just because it felt too much at times. But I get it, I'm finding that's how Penny likes her h's. Smart funny women, with a touch of geekiness and a bit of oddity.
Duane is your true gentleman. I've almost forgotten the charms of a proper courtship. It was just endearing. I thought he was just as without guile as Jessica. He's caring, romantic and oh so thoughtful... sigh...
I must say the whole biker business threw me off a little. I was just so eager to find out how those 2 will deal with things that every time my focus has to shift, it just made me extra nervous since they already have issues to deal with. But I think it's just me... but I swear, I had this dreamy smile to my face the whole time I was reading this...
Seeing that this is my 2nd Penny Reid series, I'm finding that her stories are like the book equivalent of comfort food. I have a handful of writers like that in my head. If I want to feel all warm and fuzzy, if I want to smile and laugh, and ok, swoon while I'm at it, then I think a Penny read will fit the bill just fine...
I cannot wait for the rest of the Winston brothers' stories to materialize!!!
