Things a good neighbor can do for you:

1. Give you a cup of sugar

2. Let you borrow his lawnmower

3. Water your plants while you're on vacation

4. Make your eyes roll back in your head with his tongue

Katya Tocci has never paid much attention to who lives next door - her career always kept her too busy. She's a good girl, working her way to becoming the most sought after cake designer in all of San Francisco.

But even a good girl's gotta cut loose once in a while, right? So one fake dating profile later, and she's ready to tarnish her squeaky clean image. Little does she know, her fun time is closer to home than she ever imagined.

Throw in a neighbor who wants to corrupt her, and another who just wants to own her, and her entire world is flipped upside down.

Who knew neighbors could be so helpful?

About the Author:

Styloe.jpg

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

RELEASE BLITZ: The Debt by Karina Halle

         the debt 0 days (1)
The Debt AMAZON

Her life changed in an instant. And he's the only one who could have prevented it. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Pact and The Lie comes a new standalone contemporary romance about those McGregor men. Jessica Charles shouldn't have even been in London when the unthinkable happened. She should have been back at home in Edinburgh, perhaps hanging with her boyfriend, having drinks with her sister or doing yoga with her group of friends. She should have been going on in her normal, dependable life as always. But on that fateful day in August, when a mentally-ill ex-soldier opened fire in public, Jessica's world changed forever. Now single and crippled from the gunshot wounds, Jessica finds herself scared and alone, losing faith in herself and humanity with each agonizing moment that passes. That is until a stranger enters her life. A stranger who makes her live again. Keir McGregor has always been the strong, silent type. Throw in tall, dark, and handsome and you've got pretty much the perfect Scotsman. Except Keir is anything but perfect. He's got a past he's running away from and a guilty conscience he can't seem to shed. But the more time he spends with Jessica, the more he falls in love with her. And the more his secret threatens to tear them apart. He may have been a stranger to her. But she’s never been a stranger to him.

“You’re not going anywhere,” he says. “Sit. I’ll get you another drink.”   “It’s getting late,” I say feebly but I sit down anyway, my leg giving a protest of pain.   “You need something for that?” he says, noticing my wince.   “The scotch will do fine,” I tell him quickly, not wanting him to make a fuss. “But really, I should go.”   “Why?” he asks from the kitchen. I hear the top pop off the bottle, the slosh of liquid in the glass. “Where do you have to be?”   I have to think about that for a moment. He comes over and holds out the glass. “I won’t keep you here if you don’t want to be here. But if you do want to be here, you don’t need to make any excuses.”   I take the glass from him, holding it delicately in my fingers. He stands over me, a massive wall, waiting for some kind of response.   “I just…” I begin. “I…” I take a sip for bravery. Swallow. “I’m not very good at this.”   “Good at what?”   “At…this. Being with a man.”   When he doesn’t say anything to that, I look up at him. He’s got a peculiar smile on his face, his brows raised. “You call this being with a man?”   I clear my throat, feeling my cheeks grow hot. “I mean. I’ve told you before –”   “Yes, how you don’t do relationships, how you don’t do sex.”   “I never said I don’t do sex,” I remind him quickly.   His eyes never stop searching my face. “Then what is it? What are you afraid to say?”   I have the sudden urge to flee and I know it must show because he suddenly points at me and says, “Don’t you dare say you have to go again. I want you to go back to what you said, that you’re not good at this. What is this? Us? You and me? There’s nothing mystifying about you and me, Jessica. You know quite well how I feel.”   I stare at him in shock. I do? “How?”   He looks off with an air of impatience. “I invited you to dinner, you turned me down.”   “But then you said just as friends.”   “And I meant it. But there are different types of friends. It’s up to you to decide what kind we are.”   I put my drink down with a clunk. “Holy pressure.” And now it’s not just my face going hot but my entire body, flushed from head to toe.   “You’re on fire, little red,” he says, his gaze skirting over my limbs in such a hungry way I can almost feel them on my skin. “I have to say, I like this look on you. Hot and bothered.”   “Back with the innuendos again,” I comment but my voice is weak.   “No, no innuendos this time. You came looking for me tonight not because you wanted to confess but because you want something from me. What is it? What do you want from me? What do you think I can give you?”   Jesus. This is so utterly unnerving. His words slice right through me, his eyes still peeling under the layers, trying to get at something I’m not even sure of myself.   If I lie, he’ll know. I can only be honest with him.   “I want…” I take in a deep breath, my eyes breaking away. “I want…company.”   “Company?” He sounds surprised.   I nod. “That’s the truth. I’m lonely. And I’m afraid. And I’m tired of being both those things. I want to be with someone who makes me forget who I am. You make me feel fearless in a way I didn’t think possible.”   There. That’s the truth. Most of it. It hangs in the air, thickening the tension like flour to stock.   He sits down next to me, has a mouthful of Scotch. “Wow,” he says, running his hand over the beard on his jaw. “And here I was thinking you wanted my cock.”   I burst out laughing. So does he, a big wonderful bellow. The tension in the room eases up a notch.   “Sorry,” I tell him when I catch my breath. “I guess they can both mean the same thing.”   He sucks in his lip briefly, his eyes taking a lustful turn. “If you want it to.” We stare at each other for a few heavy beats. Then his focus trails back to my gaze and he says, “Why don’t you stay over?”   And there I have it. The chance to know what those full lips would feel like on mine, what his skin would taste like. I swallow hard.             The Debt 2

REVIEW: Dominate by Tara West

Blurb

Dominate, A Drazen World Novella

Two months. That’s how much time I have to woo Hollywood before I have to go back to my job in Houston, teaching high school drama. I don’t have time to be patient, and I damn well am not about to settle for being a stereotype. They got the wrong Latina if they think Ariana Delarosa Alvarado is going to play by their rules.

I’ve got my own set of rules, especially in the bedroom, and I plan on enforcing them between auditions. I can think of no better way to relieve my stress than by seducing my neighbor, tall, toned, and delicious Dr. Brad Thorensen. I only hope I don’t scare away my Nordicgod before teaching him how to enjoy my brand of kink.

Review

RATING:

No offense to Tara, but this surprised me in a good way. For a short read, I got a full story, which was nice. That’s always challenging with reads of this length.

As part of the Drazen world that CD Reiss originally created, this story is about Brad and Ariana. If you’re familiar with CD’s Submission series, Brad is the doctor neighbour that seemed to have caught the fans’ attention, including mine. So much so that I, as a fan, have wondered what makes him tick. In Tara’s hands, Brad, as it turns out, knows how to submit, how about that!

But before I get ahead of myself, this is actually from Ariana’s POV, a character that may be familiar, according to Tara, if you’ve read one of her own series. Anyways, Ariana has quite an edge to her and very specific needs in the bedroom. You slowly learn why that is, as the story unfolds. For a short read, Tara managed to make me understand and get her. She sold me the heat between Brad and Ariana. I suppose this could’ve had the potential to be dark and really angst-y had it been a full length novel. As it is, I thought I still got a decent full story of a broken h and a H who was the right fit (and dare I say “right fit”? hehe) for her. And as much as I would've wanted to see Brad's POV, I thought it was smart of Tara to focus my attention on Ariana.

I knew I dug this story and Tara’s writing when I found myself wondering if I own any of Tara’s books in my TBR shelf, and turns out I do! So off I look at my calendar to see when I can fit them in… hopefully…

With his plans already in motion the very second he’s free, Kaz goes after what’s most important. Violet first. Vasily second. The Russians are out for blood. The Italians want their blood back. It’s only a matter of time before someone comes for Kaz and Violet—hiding was never in their plans. And they’ve been waiting for this … The game they’re playing is dangerous. Someone always has to lose. From authors London Miller (Den of Mercenaries) and Bethany-Kris (The Chicago War) comes the second installment in the Seasons of Betrayal series that has readers calling it “A modern day Romeo and Juliet.”

Review:

RATING:

Kaz and Violet’s story continues. Now that Kaz is out of prison, there’s a lot of things to be taken care of. Both families are after them. Kaz knows he needs to do something. Kaz gets some help, but is it enough? There’s no doubt between Kaz and Violet, but that’s not even an issue. The issue is their safety. As ruthless as Kaz can get to keep Violet safe, and him for that matter, is it enough?

Kaz remains the swoony kicka$$ H that he is. I actually like Violet more now. There is an unassuming strength to her that I didn’t appreciate before. I like Kaz with his friends. Individually and together, they’re scary in have-no-fear-you’re-always-safe-with-me-way, ie if you’re on their side. And that thing between Kaz and Violet, still explosive, oh yeah!

Clueless me thought though that this was a duet so imagine my confusion when it felt like nothing’s being resolved even towards the end. While things are moving forward, it also felt like nothing was happening. Then of course there’s that ending! Waaaahhhh!!!!

On that note, at the end of it, this is the clearly the bridge to get the readers to what I’m sure will be an explosive ending (it is just a trilogy, right?). CANNOT WAIT for bk 3!!!

RATING:

Daayyyum!!! I knew it!!!

This, this tells me what Marni can do when she puts her mind to it.

(Start typing… backspace… start typing… delete, delete… start typing) Daayyyum!!!

Trying to wrap my head around this one…. Where do I start? There are triggers in this book that’s definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s dark… and it’s deviously delicious…

The story opens up when Garin and Kyle were young. It’s a hard life. One pivotal moment caused their paths to diverge. One pivotal moment that led to where Kyle and Garin found themselves prisoned. One pivotal moment that caused it all.

Kyle’s present was shaped by her past. Her path took her back to Garin because of a loss. She’s saddled with a great burden and she knew the price she’s paid and continues to pay. Garin may have moved on but not entirely and his path circled back to Kyle because of the events in the past. Questions needed answers. Events needed closure.

Marni took me thru some really dark moments. Some of its vileness made my stomach queasy. She definitely didn’t hold back. She gave me heat in all the wrong places yet it all felt right, and I felt every bit of it. Hot dang! But not just that, she made me feel! Having both POVs definitely enhanced the experience…

I thought I had answers but I didn’t. And when I thought I was right, I was wrong AND right at the same time. I speculated, and speculated, and speculated right til the end. And speaking of that ending, I loved an ending which gets my mind going long after the story’s finished. Whether I’m heading in the right direction that Marni wants me to go or not, I say it’s ok. Ultimately, after all is said and done, it’s like I’m left with an experience.

So far, of all my Marni reads, this is the darkest, and by far my favorite… I think… what does that say about me then, eh? Hmmm...

Excerpt:

“Always so melodramatic!” Whitney sighed. I turned toward her and glared. “If you know anything of this…” I let my voice trail off. There was something in her eyes I did not like—at all. It was…knowledge. “You know where she is.” The princess merely shrugged. “She knows nothing of the sort!” Margaret said, but the tone of her voice had changed. She, too, was looking at her daughter, and I could see the doubt in her eyes. “You will die if you have touched her,” I said to Whitney. “Where is she?” “What difference does it make?” Whitney asked. “You do not need her; you never have. I am here for you.” I scoffed and shook my head, narrowing my eyes at her. Could she be serious? As many times as I had told her she would not be made my queen, could she still think there is a possibility of a union? “Branford, be reasonable.” Whitney cooed at me. “We are meant to be, not you and some common trash—” Whatever else she was going to say remained stuck in her throat as I backhanded her across the face. She squealed like an animal and fell to the side before Parnell could right her again. “Get your hands off my daughter!” Margaret screeched from across the room. “Where is my wife?” I snarled again at Whitney. I pulled back my hand to hit her a second time while her mother yelled at me. “I said stay away from her! Do you hear me? She is my daughter and a princess! You will not treat her so!” I turned and eyed Margaret standing in front of one of my soldiers with her arms pinned behind her back. I stalked slowly over to her and leaned down until my face was but inches from hers. “Do you know where my wife is?” I asked her quietly. “No, I do not,” she said in her haughty tone. “And if I did, I would not—” Margaret’s sentence ended in a choking gasp as my blade slid easily into her. I placed my hand on her shoulder and pushed down at the same time I pulled up with my sword arm, impaling her further with a twist of the blade. “Then I have no more use for you,” I told her lifeless eyes.

REVIEW:

RATING:

First, we’ve got Branford’s POV, woohoo!!! Second, this is very fitting ending to this one heck of a ride, yay!!!

This picks up right where book 6 ended so you’re knee deep in the action right from the start. Branford totally kicked a$$ here, all for Alexandra. Kinda’ weird saying that in a historical romance but that’s totally what he did. The blurb tells you what you need to know. This is seeing the events all from Branford’s POV, and I loved it.

In its entirety, Shay definitely took me on a ride that I didn’t anticipate. She threw me curveball after curveball that I honestly didn’t know where the following book will take me. If I think of one part (or 2) in particular, I swear, Shay almost lost me. How could she do that, I thought, and in a romance story to boot! Seriously, I was ready to get upset and all ranty, but I also knew I had to trust Shay’s writing.

See, the funny thing is I never know what to expect from Shay. From her characters to her stories, she does what she does best, the unexpected. If you’re looking for a cookie-cutter trope, Shay might not be the author for you. But if you’re looking to be surprised with your read, then I say put her on your list. Just saying…

Take this serial as a whole, I’ve come to associate Shay with male POV and what did she do here, she gave me the h’s POV, except for the last one. For someone who’s given me broken H’s in contemporary and dystopian setting, she then gave me an understated h in a historical setting. Granted I don’t read a lot of HR, but compared to the ones I’ve read, she still manage to give it a contentious twist that will make you love or hate the story. Clearly, I ended up loving it still. I get it. It’s not what I usually would want to read in my romance books but I thought Shay delivered it well. I didn’t necessarily like or agree with it, but I understood it. As weird as this may sound, it was realistic. In the end, I didn’t think it took away the emotions meant to be devoted only to H&h. AND for a historical read, this has a lot of grit which felt incongruous but appropriate given the harsh times.

If nothing else, if you’re in the mood for HR with a twist, I say you have got to give this a chance.

Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate romance, and undying love.

Conscience:

Caroline faces the biggest challenge of her life when confronted with the cruelty and sadism of her captors at The Fed. Hope fades quickly, even as she holds onto her one last bit of sanity and her unshakable belief that her husband will rescue her. But is that faith just a mirage?

Sojourn:

Reeling from her experiences at The Fed, Caroline tries to forge ahead and create a new identity. But that’s hard to do with the ghosts of the past constantly whispering in her ear. She is determined to find the rebellion and move on with her life, but what will she find when she arrives there?
