Blurb

Review

Oh Logan, seriously, you had me at "Hey!"...

More and more, I’m thinking the Chaos men are becoming top fave KA H’s, next to the Unfinished Heroes ones. Well, it does start with the granddaddy of em all, Tack, so how can that not be a good start to this series, no?

Maybe it’s just me, but this has a slightly different feel than the other Chaos books. There feels like more angst, less crazy shenanigans, and less OTT alpha gathering (ie outside of the Chaos men). No? Just me?

Logan/High and Millie has quite the history. Honestly, the beginning of their story just felt too good to be true, and at such a young age at that, you just know something is gonna create a (huge) ripple in that serene waters of young true love. Then came their second chance, and boy, was that ever the one of the sweetest second-chance story I’ve read.

There were things that made me ask what would’ve happened if certain things happened or didn’t. Thing that normally I couldn’t overlook or would not make sense in my head; like the extended length of time it took for them to reconnect after what felt like a very random occurrence or like the lack of communication that triggered it all. But in the end, I’m all ok with it. It felt like it was necessary. Things had to occur. Some learning curve needed to happen to take them to a better place. As far as I’m concerned, KA made it so that it makes sense to me. My heart broke for those 2, felt the pain that Millie went thru and the anguish that Logan went thru. Every now and then, that 1 pivotal scene runs through my head, and I feel all kinds of emotion wash through me.

While it might be hard to agree with Millie’s decisions, especially the one that caused it all, like Logan, I understood. For the price that she paid because of it, she deserved every bit of happy that she got. Oddly enough, High didn’t quite stand out for me in the previous Chaos books which was why I was a little surprised that his story came first before Rush. But I am glad nevertheless that his story came. Logan/High, I thought, was another pure KA alpha, swoon!!!! I cannot be more in love with this dude, honestly. Even when he was hurting, I couldn't not like him. After he learned the truth, he understood. He did his best to be a good dad. He loved, he lost, he took care of things, he took charge... sigh...

I  appreciate the fact the H&h are older than usual in this genre. And in true KA form, outside of the H&h’s story, there was the friendship, there was the humor, there were children (not as adorbs as the others but realistic nonetheless) and there was the hotness factor. What more can I ask for, right?

Maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall

I wanted to jump.

He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.
Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

“Thank f*ck!” Sam said, swinging the door open before Devon even had the car in park.

“Oh, this isn’t my place. We’re just dropping Devon off. I’m about twenty minutes across town?” I tossed him a sugary smile then boldly shifted my hand into his lap, purposely brushing the bulge under his denim.

Grabbing my wrist, he narrowed his eyes and called out, “Devon, I’m gonna need to borrow a bedroom.”

I burst out laughing as Devon cursed loudly.

“Fine. This is my place. No smoking inside though,” I snipped as I climbed from the SUV.

“You better have some seriously exciting extracurricular activities to keep me distracted, then.”

“I have Ping-Pong!”

“Not exactly what I was thinking.” He mischievously cocked his head. “But I guess paddles and balls are as good a start as any.” Dipping down, he hoisted me over his shoulder. “Point me to the Ping-Pong table, my lady.”

I didn’t. I laughed hysterically as he carried me inside. Then I directed him to my bedroom instead.

I heard Devon locking up the house as Sam deposited me on the bed.

“Jesus. This view.” He pushed the curtains back. “Why the hell would you ever go up to the bridge when you have this here?”

“I don’t know,” I answered, pulling my earrings off and placing them on my nightstand.

Oh, but I knew. It might not have been what had originally sent me up that bridge, but it was why my feet carried me back every night. And that very reason was currently standing in front of me with entirely too much clothing on.

“You want a beer?” I asked, sliding my shoes off.

“Nah, I’m good.” He faced me, and I could tell something was off with his demeanor. He didn’t inch any closer. Instead, his lips were tight and his eyes uncomfortably flashed around the room.

It suddenly didn’t feel like Sam standing in front of me at all.

He felt like a stranger who had just come face-to-face with Levee Williams.

Damn it.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Are you about to freak out?” I whispered, nervously moistening my lips.

He shoved his hands into his pockets. “I’m not really sure yet. But I’m gonna need you to stop licking your lips long enough for me to figure it out.” His mouth cracked into a wide grin, and my shoulders relaxed.

Now that was a flash of my Sam.

“Want to tell me what’s going on?” I asked.

“It’s just… I think this is the first time I’ve realized that you’re some big-time celebrity. I might be in over my head here, Designer Shoes.”

“I just make music, Sam.” I returned his smile and very slowly prowled in his direction. “Imagine how I feel though. You’re Samuel Nathan Rivers. A tough, tattooed furniture designer who makes six figures a year but is too afraid to tell his mommy he votes democratic.” I giggled as he frowned humorously. Stopping in front of him, I dragged a fingernail down his chest then teased the waistband of his jeans. “Have you considered that maybe I’m the one who’s in over her head here?” I leaned forward to nip at his lips, but he spun us around.

“Excellent point. I’m going to need you to try really hard to keep it together, Levee. You haven’t even seen my six-pack and huge c*ck, yet.” He smirked and attempted to return my nip, but I stepped out of his reach.

“You brought beer and chicken?” I feigned excitement.

That one corny joke was all it took to bring my Sam back completely.

With a sexy smile and a coy shrug, he seductively backed me toward the bed. “What can I say? I like to be prepared.”

“Clearly,” I breathed.

He moved in close so his lips were only a centimeter away, but for as much as I wanted him, it was agonizing. “Clearly,” he repeated, his smoky yet sweet breath breezing across my mouth.

His strong arm looped around my waist, tugging me against his chest, while I stared into his hooded eyes, eagerly waiting for him to make a move.

Any move.

Every move.

RATING:

It’s official, I am completely in love with Aly’s writing! As far as I’m concerned, she definitely gave me another winner here…

Be warned, I probably won’t be able to stop gushing over Sam. OMG, Sam, Sam, Sam! Talk about the perfect BBF! Just utterly perfect! Sigh…

Sam and Levee met under unusual circumstance, a situation where I don’t think any of us wants to find ourselves in, ever, but hey, it happened for Sam and Levee. From that unusual first meeting, a connection was born.

Levee is a pop princess who, on appearance, has it going for her. She’s famous with an extremely busy lifestyle but goes out of her way for a special group of people, at her own expense no less. She has her demons to slay, which is what led her to that place where she met Sam. Sam has a past that he’s trying to deal with as well. One big diff, he has a good support system, unlike Levee. Levee has her friend Henry, but that’s about it. Another big diff, is their attitude and approach. Sam… gawd, honestly, I cannot cannot be any more in love with this dude! You want sweet, he got sweet! You want caring, he got caring! You want taking charge, he got taking charge! You want funny, he got funny! You want smokin’ body, he got smokin’ body! You want tats, he got tats! You want a lover who’s also a friend, he got a lover who’s also a friend! I can keep going and going and going and going… and I’m pretty sure he got it. Sigh… I loved loved loved all his thoughts and actions, and every word that came out from his pretty mouth. Gah!!!

I will admit this was not a perfect book for me. I had some concerns, especially in the beginning. Levee, for all her pain, was losing me as an empathetic reader as I didn’t understand where half her angst were coming from, even though I could tell that it was a huge deal for her. And in me feeling that way, I started wondering how Sam was feeling all that attraction. But the more I read, the more I fell in love with Sam that it reached a point where the other things didn’t really matter anymore. And eventually, things started turning around and I started rooting for Levee just as much. There is such ease to their interaction, so much levity, so much candour, and so much emotions. Then add the side characters who are just as memorable, that in the end, I was gobbling up the pages like crazy yet trying to slow down as well to savour the words.

In the end, putting my feelings for Sam aside, what I got was a touching story that tackled a very important issue that could lead to grave ramifications if not acknowledged or dealt with, plain and simple. The reality is our society is still not equipped well to deal with issues of the mind nor are we educated enough to recognize that illness goes beyond physical. How Sam and Levee dealt with it, the resources that they have, not everyone is fortunate that way. Being the fiction that this is, I think it was handled well and sensitively. So yes, we’re really not just talking about the love story that was of Sam and Levee’s. But if we only should focus on that, all I’ve left to say is that kudos to Sam and Levee. And kudos to Aly for having written a layered story.

Excerpt

I cup her chin and turn her to face me slowly.

“You’re thinking too much. Don’t think.”

A blush creeps across her cheeks and she drops her eyes again. I brush her hair away from her face and let my hand rest on her neck as I slowly move in closer. Her trembling lips steady themselves on mine, softly settling against my mouth. Our breaths mingle, tongues gently tickling at the insides of each other’s lips. I press further, wanting to kiss away all the shakes in her body, to let her thoughts disappear in the heat of our mouths. Her hand presses against my shirt, splayed fingers tentatively tracing the hardness of my chest, before pushing me away from her.

“Brando…” she whispers, her eyes still closed, her mouth still wet. “I think I just need…”

“Tell me what you need,” I coax her.

“I need…” She opens her eyes, and I already know what she’s about to say. “You.”

This is the most restrained I’ve ever been. Every muscle memory in my body wants to tear her clothes off, the look in her lidded eyes all I need to know she wants this – even more than I do. Hours spent around her blossomed lips, her hidden breasts, her slender thighs, hours of caging up my lust for her in pursuit of another goal has made it grow, big and fearsome. Now that the cage is open, it’s taking all of my reserve to stop it from taking me over. I need this to be slow – this is for her.

“I know how to make you sing, Haley,” I growl in short breaths. My hand goes to the inside of her thigh, pressing itself against the front of her jeans. “I can make you sing better than you’ve ever sung before.”

I have the buttons undone in seconds. Warm, strong, fingers teasingly reaching into the lip of her panties. Her head goes back, eyes closed as she starts panting at the ceiling.

“Wait!” she says, snapping back, her hand on my wrist. “I don’t understand what’s happening between us, Brando. Is this about me? Or is this about music?”

I kneel in front of her, slowly pulling down her jeans.

“It’s about music,” I say... “It’s always about music.”

Review

RATING:

This is a first JD read for me. I have the 1st book in his other 2 duets but unfortunately haven't gotten to them yet (eek)...

Now I haven't read any of the other reviews on this yet, something I typically do right after I finish reading a book, but off the top of my head, there are a few things that came to mind quickly. It may have been said already, or not...

JD could have easily titled this book Stu, as in Stu Reardon, the cover model, and I would've been more than ok. I actually had to keep reminding myself that the H's name is Brando *grins*. Second, as soon as I read part of the blurb, "The bet is simple: take a nobody and make her a star.", the first thing that popped into my head,  "Ooh, kinda' like Pygmalion, but with a twist". Is it just me? Third, I actually had to look up "A&R". I'm sorry, but just call me clueless that way.

The blurb tells us under what circumstances Brando and Haley met. Brando and the readers know that, but not Haley.

Brando, initially, if I didn't know any better, almost came across as d0uche-y, just because I know what he was trying to do. But, I'll be the first to say that he is a decent guy albeit misguided with his desires that he was willing to do whatever it takes. At least, he sorta' recognized that himself as well. And there is his sense of humor, and his tenacious drive.

Haley, initially, almost felt like this pawn in whatever game Brando was trying to pull. She's an amiable person with a good touch of snark who has talents and just wants to get her break. I love how she has that spark in her.

I didn't immediately buy into their connection in my head, a consequence of having access to Brando's thoughts. Outside of Brando being Stu in my head, I was frankly wondering what she's seeing in him at first. Not that he was an a$$ to her or anything like that, it was because I know what his original motives were. But lo and behold, as I read more, I started getting it. Then their connection really sizzled! Before I know it, I was getting just as enamored as Haley. Without me getting a full picture of their daily minutiae and just being focused on their interaction, I started falling for Brando myself. With select words, I started seeing what Haley meant to Brando. In a short amount of time, I sense growth on Brando's part. I felt the sincerity of just doing right by Haley. If I think of it as a movie, it felt I was given a well-crafted montage where I got glimpses here and there of events that when put together, you understand the emotional intent and fall for every second of it...

Alas, this is just the first book in the duet, so no HEA yet. The designated "villains" have just started doing their villain-y moves. All is not well yet... Luckily, the 2nd book is just around the corner.

In the meantime, I really need to get to JD's other books...

PROLOGUE REVEAL: Blindsight by Adriane Leigh

Blind2a.jpg

Blindsight.jpg

Synopsis round.jpg

Sometimes a single touch is all it takes to spark a wildfire.
Erin Warner learned that the day she bumped into the dashing, tattooed stranger on a busy Chicago street corner. She’s captivated from the moment his mystifying green eyes find hers, and it isn’t long before she finds herself flying to exotic locales to assist him, the award-winning erotic photographer Hunter Ellis, on location. What she didn’t bargain for was the way he makes her blood bubble and churn with lust and thinly-veiled promises of unfathomable erotic pleasure with every click of his camera.
But there is more to Hunter than meets the eye, including the intricately etched tattoos decorating his body that disguise horrific scars from a past he refuses to revisit. As she peels away the layers, Erin realizes that what she thought was true, never really was at all, for both of them.
Now she can only hope that blind adoration for the dashing stranger didn’t sign her death warrant.

The first in a thrilling new erotic serial intended for mature audiences.

BTB Round.jpg

Prologue

My heart pounded in unwavering beats. I stood over him, tears rushing down my cheeks, my eyes unblinking at the slumped form sprawled across the seeping maroon concrete.
“Hunter,” I sobbed and dropped to my knees, the concrete grating the denim, soaking the blood clear through. I didn’t care. All I saw was him, because for the first time since we’d met, I couldn’t feel him.
“Hunter, please, breathe,” I whimpered and dropped my ear to his barely parted lips. The lips I’d pressed to mine tenderly, the lips that had roamed my skin and caressed my body.
“Hunter—” I choked on the words as tears rained down my cheeks, my hands and body trembling so fiercely I couldn’t focus long enough to tell if he was breathing.
I can’t feel him. He’s gone.
“Hunter,” I whispered and tried to still my misfiring heart.
“He’s dead, Erin.” A voice echoed over my shoulder and sent chills racing down my spine. No. NO. “No!” I turned to find empty pits of burnt amber assessing me.
“What did you do?” I shrieked and balled my tiny fists into the hard rock wall of the man towering over me. His hands caught my wrists with ease and halted my assault.
“Don’t f*ck with me.” The familiar eyes tore into mine as I hunkered from his imposing force. His grip tightened painfully, ripping a grunt past my lips.
“No,” I moaned, ready to collapse at Hunter’s slouched form. Nothing mattered — the world ceased moving when Hunter’s heart had stopped in his chest.
“Let’s go.” John Walker hauled me from the concrete and carried me through the dark corridors of the warehouse and away from the man who’d promised he’d always protect me.

Blurb
Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness…until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.
Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he’d rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It’s his saving grace, but it doesn’t silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours’ sleep and his bad boy reputation.
When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new “it” couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting—needing—to give Kit this, even if he can’t give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful…and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.

Review

Oy! Angst, angst, angst...

Ummm, not really sure what just happened here… I feel like the angst here was maxed out to the bling, which is not necessarily good. If you’re a chocolate lover like me, it’s like eating a very rich chocolate bar that you can only have a square or 2 at a time. At least that’s how I felt.

This is now Noah and Kit’s story. They’re good friends with a strong connection, until they weren’t, then they were again. They’re both in the limelight and that strong connection they have translated well in pictures so it was decided to best capitalize on it.

Noah was as closed off as a tight-lid jar bursting with liquid except with Fox. He’s damaged but there was attempt to fix things, well, somewhat, esp when it came to Kit. He really is a sweet guy, esp when it came to Kit. Kit, fortunately, has the patience of a saint and has enough sensibilities to deal with Noah. Their friendship is admirable, and their connection is something quite to be jealous about, I thought.

Some readers may be put off by Noah’s action in the very beginning, I was just confused. Was that really necessary to take it that far? I was thinking there were less d0uche-y actions to convey the same message. That’s just me though. Also, I thought Noah’s personal issue was kinda' overplayed, so as painful as it was, he lost some of my sympathy and add to that, the focus on re-building their friendship, it took a lot of pages for what I thought could have been utilized to focus on their relationship as a couple.

Angst aside, there’s enough action to spike up the mood a bit, courtesy of Kit’s personal dilemma. It was nice to see the rest of the band and their women. So really, I think I still enjoyed it enough but I know I could’ve enjoyed it more. Next up is Abe’s story. Of course, I still would want to read that. After all, I want to see them all get their HEA.

No one ever saw them.

We didn’t know where they came from or why they came here. We only knew that in one blast, the planet was left in ruins. For weeks, the bodies of men rotted in the streets.

Men. Not women. Not children.

The women and children were gone.

With the cities destroyed and communication impossible, we could only guess what happened. Men gathered in loose tribes, trying to get answers, but there were none to be found.

As the weeks turned into months, survivors emerged from secluded, rural areas, underground shelters, and subway systems in the larger cities. Only a handful of women were among them. Men outnumbered them a thousand to one.

During the first year, the weather warmed. Rainfall nearly stopped. Lights began to appear in the sky, moving slowly over our heads, but they never came down. We had no face for our enemy, so we turned against each other.

Fights broke out as survivors struggled for limited resources. Clean water and food were at the top of the list and would only be traded for fuel, guns, or ammunition.

The few, unfortunate females still to be found became the most prized commodity.

REVIEW: Wild Ride (Playing for Keeps, Book 2) by Cathryn Fox

RATING:

When Mac defines the terms for the week and insists she do everything he says, Jess can't help but be intrigued. Since this good girl wants to break free and do something naughty, she agrees to his terms and soon finds herself embarking on a sexual journey that knows no limits. For Jess this is one week of living out her fantasies, but Mac is determined to make this wild ride last forever.

Review

For a novella, this packs quite a punch! Of  smexy times, that is, oh boy!

I haven't read the 1st novella in this series but it's ok, they're all standalones, as far as I can tell. This one is about Mac and Jess, the one gal from high school who didn't quite leave his mind. I think that's the theme for the series- that what-if question.

Mac and Jess were quite into each other when they were young but neither one did anything about it, that is, until Mac decided to invite Jess to the dude ranch that he co-owns with 2 friends from high school. I would have enjoyed more buildup to their "reunion". I don't know or understand why then and not before. I guess I just had to buy into his plan without much preamble.

But once that reunion happened, was that ever scorchin'! Call me whatever but the hotness factor was enough for me to enjoy the whole thing teehee... which is what I've come to expect anyways from any of my Entangled Brazen reads. Guess I got what I asked for. Mission accomplished.

REVIEW: Get Real (Get Real, Book 1) by Tellulah Darling

RATING:

Blurb

Magic and Mayhem in Manhattan
Francesca Bellafiore comes from a nice Jewish family -- one that happens to have magical powers. Underneath her good-girl exterior, though, she’s a wannabe badass with dreams of becoming a paranormal detective. Party boy Rafael Muñoz does everything possible to publicly disappoint his high profile father. Privately, it's a different story. His carefully crafted bad boy reputation masks the fact he’s a master illusionist, forced into solo covert ops. The role is wearing thin and Rafael longs to be part of a team. When Francesca and Rafael meet, it’s love at first sight… For about five minutes. Rafael is spectacularly attractive—and, Francesca discovers, fully aware of the fact. Rafael knows from experience that girls like Francesca are more trouble than they’re worth. So it sucks big time when they’re caught in a web of magic, minions, secrets, and enough sexual tension to power NYC. Their only chance to save the city and survive is to team up, trust each other–and maybe even fall in love. Provided they don't kill each other first. Get Real is a romantic comedy, urban fantasy whirlwind with sass, sex, and swoon.

Review

This is a first Tellulah read for me. Lucky for me, a Goodreads friend put this on my radar and piqued my curiosity. What a delightful read!

This is like Harry Potter meet X-Men mildly with an NA twist.

We have Francesca and Rafael (and their friends) who each have their own form of magic. In the meantime, there’s someone with her own form of magic which caused a disturbance in Francesca and Rafael’s world and led them to working together.

Tellulah (love that name, btw) definitely lives up to her promise of writing about sassy girls and swoony boys. Oh Rafa…

Francesca and Rafa have quite the chemistry. I totally enjoyed their sarcastic yet sweet and smart interaction. They acted their age without being patronizing or having contrived remarks. Their friends are just as fascinating.

The world that Tellulah started building here is quite interesting. For the most part, this is a fast-paced story with a lot of entertainment value if magic and fantasy is your sort of thing. The pace during the last 10% did feel a little off for me and I was worried that it will veer to cliché land but fortunately it didn’t; although it did feel a tad convenient.

In its entirety though, there’s humor, action, suspense, some feels, and yes, some swooning:D

About the Author

Tellulah Darling

noun
1) YA & New Adult romantic comedy author because her first kiss sucked and she's compensating.
2) Firm believer that some of the best stories happen when love meets comedy and awkwardness ensues.
3) Sassy minx.
Both a hopeless romantic and total cynic, Tellulah Darling is all about the happily-ever-after, with a huge dose of hilarity along the way. Her romcoms come in a variety of heat levels and flavors; straight up romantic comedy, shaken with Greek mythology or stirred with urban fantasy.

Sassy girls. Swoony boys. What could go wrong?
