REVIEW: Three, Two, One (321) by JA Huss

Now this, I found, was edgier than most of Julie's work... maybe it's just me...

RATING:

ONE GIRL
Battered, barefoot, and huddled under a bookstore awning in the pouring rain, Blue only knows one thing. After fifteen months of captivity, finally… she is free.
TWO FRIENDS
Self-made millionaires JD and Ark are not out to save anyone when they stumble upon a wet and shivering girl one early Sunday morning. But when you sell sex for a living and salvation rings your bell… you answer the call.
THREE SOULMATES
After years of searching, love lifts the veil of darkness, and three people—with three very big secrets—find themselves bound together in a relationship that defies the odds.
Or does it?
Love. Lust. Sex.

This trinity might be perfection… but not everything should come in 3’s.
WARNING: This is a STANDALONE non-traditional M/F/M ROMANCE with a non-traditional ending.

Oh boy, talk about a doozy of a ride!!!!!!!

I don’t even know where to begin with this... Hmmm...

First, if you’re familiar with JA Huss’ work, I think you’ll find that this is darker than her usual. For a reader like myself, who prefers vanilla-ish sort even with her dark reads (hmmm, is that even possible? Oxymoron-ic much?), this pushed my limits a bit. As I started reading, I couldn’t figure out what’s happening with everyone. I wasn’t feeling emotionally vested in the 3 MC’s so everything just felt surreal. I get the emotions yet I don’t get it.

If this would help explain how I feel about it, the whole time I was reading this, especially in the beginning, it felt like watching a European art house film where I don’t understand any of the characters, I was frowning the whole time because I’m not sure what’s going on, I feel like walking away because everything just feels weird yet I find myself glued to the screen. And as the story progressed, I started formulating my own theories which turned out correct, for some of them. Things that I thought were big turned out not so big. Things that I thought will go one direction didn’t. You get the picture...

The biggest enigma for me is the dynamics among the 3 MC’s. The suspense or misdirection, in a way I’m not surprised, as that is just how JA rolls; so whether unexpected or not (mostly unexpected), it was expected to a degree (huh? *scratches head* exactly!). But like I said, the relationship among those 3, that was quite interesting to read how it all played out. It was complex yet simple in their needs, disturbing yet fitting to their needs, has an edge to it yet so sweet, wrong on so many levels yet right for them, and confusing yet clear(?)...

This is probably one of the more confusing reviews I’ve written so far but this is the best I can do without giving anything away. I say just read it. Brace yourself and just enjoy the ride, so to speak. This is one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride for sure!!!!

Thanks for dropping by!
