SYNOPSIS
ONLY THROUGH BLOOD CAN THE DEEPEST REDEMPTION BE FOUND…
He was born to ascend.
He was destined to lead.
He was never meant to fail.
Prophet Cain lies broken and defeated on the floor of his cell. A cell he has been thrown into by the one person who was supposed to stand by his side until the end. His flesh and blood, his only companion. His beloved twin brother.
Cain has sacrificed everything for his people. He left the safety and security of his life of study to infiltrate the infamous Hades Hangmen. He lived with them, rode with them, and then betrayed them. All in the name of a faith he can now feel slipping away from him. Like everything else he once held dear…
But then his isolation is broken. Another prisoner is brought to the cell next to his. A woman fighting her own demons and fears. A woman who Cain understands needs him, as he needs her.
As the connection between them grows, so does Cain’s resolve. He will right the wrongs he has done. He will atone for the evil acts carried out in his name. He will save the one he loves…
… Even if the battle takes him to the gates of hell itself.

REVIEW
RATING:
O!!! M!!! G!!! Talk about redemption!!! O!!! M!!! G!!!
Having read the first 3 books in this series, I was really curious how Tillie would handle Cain/Rider. Cain/Rider did a lot of weasle-y things and despite certain actions that allowed me as a reader to see that there might be something there making him worth saving, I had my doubts. I honestly wasn't sure how Tillie can change my mind but I knew she would. Big fan here after all. And boy did she change my mind!
While the stories of the Hades fellas and their ladies tugged at my heartstrings, I have to say Cain/Rider and Harmony's story tugged at me differently and more strongly, which I wasn't quite expecting. Cain/Rider had a lot of things to make up for but having this story focused on him, Tillie in a way forced me to really just focus on him and his thoughts. So before I knew it, my heart was cracking for him.
Cain/Rider's struggles were heartbreaking, no one would wish that depth of despair on anyone. And when he met Harmony, a woman with just as a violent broken past, he somehow found his healing, and ultimately his redemption. Harmony has gumption and I saw that at every turn. Her convictions are admirable, and I simply love her inner strength.
In that effed up world they found themselves in, the horror that I've seen in the previous books was ever present, and it was vile and disgusting and deplorable. But out of that horror, their love blossomed and it was encouraging to see. And how they handled the consequences after, the way one stood up for another, I felt the magnitude of their feelings. *tear*
Oh, and the twists that this book will give you... well, you're just gonna have to read it.
This world that Tillie has created is indeed a very dark place. I don't think I even want to know what it takes for her to take her mind to these places. All I know is that Tillie continues to suck me in to this world. From this very dark place, love blossoms in the most unlikely way which I think makes it more poignant. If you can stomach heavy stuff, I'd say you've gotta give this series a chance. If you have any reservations about starting it, just know that Tillie will take you on one heck of a dark ride but the end destination will have sunshine and rainbows.
On that note, for fans of the series, you'll be "happy" to see that you will get more than a glimpse of the Hades men and their ladies here...
