Sienna Diaz is everyone’s favorite “fat” funny lady. The movie studio executives can’t explain it, but her films are out-grossing all the fit and trim headliners and Hollywood’s most beautiful elite. The simple truth is, everyone loves plus-sized Sienna.
But she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the backroads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston. Sienna is accustomed to high levels of man-handsome, so it’s not Jethro’s chiseled features or his perfect physique that make Sienna stutter. It’s his southern charm. And gentlemanly manners. And habit of looking at her too long and too often. Sienna has successfully navigated the labyrinth of Hollywood heartthrobs. But can she traverse the tenuous trails of Tennessee without losing her head? Or worse, her heart?

RATING:

GAH!!!

First and foremost, let me just put this out there, I so heart these Winston boys!!! I've said that before when I first read the 1st book in the series, Truth or Beard, I'm saying it again, and I'm pretty sure I'll be saying the same for the rest of the series. And Cletus, I'm also pretty sure he'll always be my most fave. I know up next will be his story (yay!), but just sayin...

Moving on, this is Jethro's turn and this is his story with Sienna. This is like Notting Hill done Penny way, and in a way the only Penny does (who else, duh). And I loved it, right from the moment Sienna got lost in the middle of nowhere, sorta, all the way to the end. In addition to this being Jethro's turn, it's Sienna's story of being literally and figuratively lost then found.

Sienna is as famous as one can get. And that fame and acclaim still came with all the expected trappings which leads to doubts. She's not quite the cookie-cutter celebrity so that alone set her apart. With all that fame though, she's quite grounded in her personality, not completely eaten up by the Hollywood machination luckily. But where she's not quite grounded is her life outside of her work. She's funny, quirky, genuine, what's not to love!

Jethro has quite the past and after having turning his life around, he just wants the love and respect of the people he care for. He's sweet, considerate, manly, respectful, a good brother and friend, funny, and oh, hot, what's not to love!

Witty conversations, honest emotions, strong supporting characters, smart humor, honest to goodness connection, smooth flow to the story, diverse backgrounds, engaging, tangible heat...

GAH!!!

... what's not to love!!!

Review, Excerpt + Giveaway: UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES by Shay Savage

BOOK 1: THE HANDMAID

SYNOPSIS
In a bold political move, Sir Branford claims a handmaid as his bride instead of the expected princess in an attempt to spark a war. Poor Alexandra knows little of how to behave as the wife of a future king and knows nothing of the man who is suddenly her husband.
Alexandra knows she is being used as a pawn and must do her best to avoid scheming noblewomen and the scorned princess, accept her position as her husband ascends to the throne, and overcome her fears of the man with whom she now shares a bed.
Sir Branford is determined to have it all – the kingdom, a wife of his choosing, and the revenge he seeks for the death of his father. He doesn’t expect the naïve handmaid to become more important than he ever could have foreseen.

“Parnell, I’m only going to say this to you once.” Branford’s voice turned cold. “Regardless of your feelings regarding my marriage, Alexandra is my wife now, and you’ll not speak of her with any disrespect. I will not have you refer to my marriage as ridiculous. Am I clear?” “Yes, sire,” Sir Parnell responded, the tone in his voice switching quickly from jovial friend and cousin to properly chastised servant. “Forgive me.” I felt Branford’s hand through my hair again, nearly lulling me into true unconsciousness. The carriage bounced through a rough section of the road, then continued on as the driver called out to the horses. The rain lessened, and the pattering sound on top of the carriage became softer. “Something has changed, has it not?” Parnell said quietly. “Perhaps.” “What is it, Branford?” There was a significant pause before Branford responded. “Parnell,” he said, “when I came up with this plan, I thought I was considering everything. Edgar would be angered but impotent to react since he brought it on himself. Whitney would be insulted, and between both those reactions, one of the next blows would lead to war. At the same time, it gets Camden off my back about finding a wife. Sunniva holds her tongue about wanting grandchildren, and I get it all—the kingdom expanded when we invade, the crown, an heir, and nothing else changes. At home, I have someone who can take care of me and my needs. I didn’t have any intention of being faithful, so it’s not as if my life away from home would change with the introduction of a wife.” “I thought I had gone through all possibilities,” Branford said, continuing. “The woman who would be the catalyst was always nameless and faceless. It didn’t matter who she was as long as she wasn’t Whitney. I decided on one of her handmaids while I was out on the field because they sat close to Whitney, and it would be more…visually dramatic. I could walk up right in front of her and turn away at the last second. It would also anger her intensely, which is exactly what I wanted. There must have been a half dozen of them, and I didn’t care which. They would all be skilled in matters of the home, which keeps me from having to employ any servants whose loyalties are questionable. I only picked Alexandra because she looked at me early on, when I was first declared victorious, and she blushed when her eyes met mine. The color on her cheeks was simply lovely, and she has beautiful eyes.” “Now your bride is no longer nameless and faceless,” Parnell said. “No, she is not,” Branford replied. “When I took her up to my room, I had every intention of bedding her. I had been staring at her in that dress all evening, and I was ready to see what was underneath it.” “And was she lacking?” Parnell asked. “You can still annul since you haven’t consummated the union.” “She’s a commoner, Parnell.” His voice turned hard and callous. “I could open the doors of this carriage in the middle of a busy marketplace, take her in front of a dozen witnesses, declare her a lousy f*ck, and still have the marriage annulled.

RATING:

I don’t often read HR but I figured it’s Shay. This is an interesting start to this historical serial.

Branford is a knight who, to not give any one the satisfaction, picked a handmaid, Alexandra, for a bride. Right from the start, Alexandra is at a disadvantage because of her status. She’s like a fish out of water in this new world that she found herself in; so much insecurity and doubt, poor Alexandra. And she’s so naïve, barely a knowledge outside of her old role of a handmaid.

Branford seems as noble in his actions as his title. While not totally selfless in his motives to do the thing he did, he seems like a decent man.

For a change, this is not a male POV which I’ve usually associated with Shay. So that’s different in and of itself. And seeing this is just the start to the serial, it’s just laying down the foundation of the story. We shall see where Shay will take this…

About the Book:

People say I’m shameless. They’re right.

I like my work dirty and my sex even dirtier. It takes a hell of a lot to tilt my moral compass, and dancing as a private stripper for horny suburbanites doesn’t even register. Neither does hooking up with them afterward whenever the mood strikes—it’s one of the bennies of the job—but it’s always a one-and-done. I don’t do repeat performances. Ever.
Until I meet the one girl in all of Chicago not interested in dry humping my junk. She’s all I can think about, and that’s a problem, because I made sure she wants nothing to do with me. But I’ve seen her deepest secrets, her darkest fantasies, and they match mine to a fucking T.

I want her. Bad.

Now I need to show her how good it can feel…to be shameless.

When he wins a sexy bet, billionaire Linc Blair can’t wait to get Lauren Neill naked. REVIEW: Beta Test (#gaymers, book 2) by Annabeth Albert

RATING:

Player vs. Player. Fight!

Brilliant graphic designer Ravi Tandel is ahead of the game—he's just been asked to present a top secret project at a huge conference in Seattle. All systems are go…until he learns his buttoned-up office nemesis is coming along for the ride.

Tristan Jones isn't really the gamer type, but he knows the back end of the video game business inside out. Together, he and Ravi will give an awesome presentation. If they survive the cross-country trip first.

Tossed together in close quarters, Ravi's shocked to see Tristan's sexy, softer side emerge from such a conservative shell. He's less shocked to learn his handsome colleague's prominent family would never support an out-and-proud son. But Ravi didn't struggle through his own coming out to hide who he is now. To be together, Tristan will have to push past his fear and ultimately decide: Does he want a future with Ravi? Or is it game over before they've even begun?

Review

I swear there is just something about Annabeth’s writing that feels like a warm cozy blanket on a chilly night. For its length, everything was just right. I didn’t wish it to be longer, nor did I think of it as too short.

Tristan is so adorkable with his methods and systems. Ravi is like the cool kid in the class. It's dual POV so you have access to both their mindsets. Tristan cannot get any more "WASP-y" than he already is, and Ravi brings in his own flavor of culture. I get it, being of minority myself. Yet despite their differences, they can't be any more perfect for each other. I love how they're surrounded by decent people, with the exception of Tristan's mother.

The build up to the relationship from a tentative friendship was just right. The reservations and the inner struggle on both ends felt right. The coming of 2 worlds happened right. The heat hit you right. The sprinkling of familiar characters, the introduction of new ones, the amount of angst, the amount of humor, right, right, right, right…

And on a more personal note, I thoroughly enjoyed their road trip as it was a familiar experience, taking the exact same route (albeit not the same stops) and taking us even further past Seattle. Reminded me of good times. Not as good a time as Tristan and Ravi had, but still good times... hehe...

Can you tell how much I love this one?!?:p

If you're looking for a nice light read with genuine emotions, this book, this series, has got to be on your list!

REVIEW: Desire After Dark (The McCarthys of Gansett Island, Book 15) by Marie Force

RATING:

Blurb

Tobias “Slim” Jackson has the perfect life as a pilot on Gansett Island in the summer and in Florida in the winter. He’s happiest when he’s in the air, or at least that was the case before last summer when he met Erin Barton, Gansett Island’s newest lighthouse keeper. Now he can’t seem to find his usual enthusiasm for flying, winter in the sunny South or anything that doesn’t include her.

Erin has been stuck on pause since she lost her twin brother. She’ll tell you herself that her life has been a hot mess since Toby died. After dropping out of law school, she’s flitted from one pointless job to another, existing rather than truly living. Then she comes to Gansett Island to take over as the new lighthouse keeper and meets Slim, who happens to share her beloved brother’s first name. That small coincidence is enough to convince Erin that she needs to spend more time with the dashing pilot—except for the fact that he’s spending the winter more than a thousand miles from her.

Now Slim’s come home to Gansett for the holidays and to hopefully pick up where he left off with Erin. He’s got twelve days before he’s due back in Florida to finish out the remainder of his winter obligations. A lot can happen in twelve days, but will it be enough to convince Erin that it’s time to start truly living again? Read Slim and Erin’s story and catch up with the rest of the Gansett Island cast in Desire After Dark!

Review

This is a first Marie Force read for me. And how about that, I start with the latest in what appears to be an ongoing series. For someone who prefers to read in sequence, I suppose I’m making myself out to be a liar by starting on the 15th book (15th!) of the series. O well…

This is such a nice light easy read. You have more mature MCs who have had life experiences. Their emotions and thoughts felt real and relatable. Their relationship progressed nicely and realistically. Nothing felt off at all.

Because this is now the 15th book, there were tons of side characters that clearly had their own stories told in the previous books, and some of them were given pages. So it felt like I’m reading several epilogues to cap each of their stories or witness their lives after they got their HEAs. Either that, or I’m reading sorta’ a prologue or introduction to the future stories for some of them. There are so many couples it was a tad hard to keep track of all of them. It felt like being a last-minute invitee to a family reunion and you’re meeting everyone all at once. Nonetheless, a nice feeling to have still been invited, KWIM, to this fun party.

The interactions did not only feel real but also quite humorous, the kind of humor you witness among close friends and family, so that was quite heartwarming.

Overall, for me, it was a nice introduction to this world that Marie has created. Hopefully, I’ll have the chance to go back and read the others’ stories. I do own some of them. Now if only I can find more time… #bookwormproblems

REVIEW: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

RATING

Not gonna lie...I've been out of the loop when it comes to Young-Adult (YA) novels. I blame the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. As much as I loved that trilogy, the ending of that third really did bring my reading of that genre into a halt... sigh...

Anyhoo, it wasn't until recently that I got interested in reading YA again. My sister-in-law has been recommending Cinder to me for the longest time, so I bought it and have had the book for more than a year. It wasn't only until recently that I had the chance to finally read it, and guess what? I basically bought the rest of the series after about reading half of Cinder in one day.

The Lunar Chronicles begins with Cinder, followed by Scarlet, Cress and then Winter as the final book.  Each book is an interpretation of a fairy tale:
Cinder: Cinderella
Scarlet: Little Red Riding Hood
Cress: Rapunzel
Winter: Snow White
Marissa Meyer's take on these tales, and how she tied everything together is seriously one of the most creative takes I've seen or read in a long time.
Each book just got better and better, and the ending is just right...there is a definite end but not too sappy.

I feel a bit of a disservice trying to sum up how much I love these books into one blog post, but I don't think a number of them would be enough to convey how much I really did enjoy all the books! There is just the right amount of action, love story and suspense to keep the reader interested.

The first book, Lunar, deals with the main heroine of the series: Cinder, a part-human, part-cyborg girl living with her legal guardian Adri and her two daughters. Cinder, because of what she has to accomplish, ends up being connected with Scarlett (second book), Cress (third book) and Winter (fourth book). The way their stories intertwined, considering they are all based on fairy tale stories, really is quite brilliant. Very imaginative and yet plausible enough that you won't think, "Whu? No way!"

Of course, romance plays a large part in all the books. However, unlike in many fairy tales where it's the prince who saves the girl in distress, it is the strength, courage and wit and of the female characters that saves the day.

Marissa Meyer has really written a great YA series in Lunar Chronicles, and I highly recommend all the four books.

REVIEW: Sugar Daddy (Sugar Bowl, Book 1) by Sawyer Bennett

RATING:

Amazon || B&N || Kobo

Blurb

Seduction has never been so sweet! The New York Timesbestselling author of the Cold Fury series—Alex, Garrett, Zack, and Ryker—returns with the first novel in a hot new trilogy.

Sela Halstead lost her innocence in a way that no sixteen-year-old should ever have to endure. She’s spent years trying to forget that night even while wondering about the identities of the monsters who brutalized her—until a telltale tattoo flashes across Sela’s TV screen. The incriminating ink belongs to Jonathon Townsend, the millionaire founder of The Sugar Bowl, a website that matches rich older men with impressionable young women. Obsessed with revenge, Sela infiltrates Townsend’s world, only to come face-to-face with a tantalizing complication: Beckett North, his charismatic business partner.

The tech mastermind behind The Sugar Bowl, Beck always gets what he wants, in business and in bed. And yet, for a man who’s done every dirty thing imaginable, there’s something about the naïve, fresh-faced Sela that sparks his hottest fantasies. Because with her, it’s not just about sex. Beck opens up to her in ways he never has with other girls. So why does he get the feeling that she’s hiding something? In a world of pleasure and power, the shocking truth could turn them against each other—or bind them forever.

Note: Sugar Daddy ends on a cliffhanger. Sela and Beck’s story continues in Sugar Rush and Sugar Free!

Review

I’ve started or read a few Sawyer Bennett series at this point and to say that this has a totally different feel than the others is almost not surprising, especially for a fan like me, seeing how she can imbue each series with changing flavour or tone.

This is a new series about Sela and Beck, brought together by less than altruistic reasons on Sela’s part. I’m telling you now, I’m not a big fan of love stories starting out with any form of deceipt. BUT there are a handful of authors who I don’t mind putting my trust in, knowing that they can sell me the need for deceipt. As you can see with my rating, Sawyer is one of them.

Sela had to do what she had to do, not expecting Beck and their attraction to each other at all. She has one goal in mind when she sought out the person she wanted to seek out and Beck just happened to be in the crosshairs. At least that’s how it started.

I understood Sela’s motivation and I also understood her capitulation as time moved on. With that much damage to a person, while she may be going about it the wrong way, I can’t help but encourage her. The d0uchebag who did the damage just has to pay! But on the other hand, didn’t they say as well that the best revenge is living well. Oh Sela and her dilemma…

Beck almost seemed too perfect at times, for Sela and generally speaking. But I know that boy has secrets, I can sense it. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean he’s not my kind of H. Oh he is alright!

Their hot times are just delish! This is Sawyer after all *g*

And this ends in one b!tch of a cliffie, just be warned. Also, there are heavy situations here that might be a trigger for some. While it’s not the darkest I’ve read, color my darkness meter skewed, it may be for some, so again, just be warned.

Personally, I’m just hooked and can’t wait to see where Sawyer will take these 2. Is it Aug yet?

Excerpt

“So why do you come to the orchid conservatory?” Julie asked. “What do you like about it, beyond the obvious that it’s amazing?”
Des stopped before a trio of white orchids. “Notice the shape of the petals. When I look at them, I imagine transforming the female form into the same shapes, using rope. I get a lot of ideas from gardens, particularly orchids.”
He traced the air before one of the flowers. “Imagine that’s her thigh, lifted, bound to her ankle. Her back arched, arms behind her so her breasts form this curve here… I’d suspend her, but I’d also twist a rope beneath her, so it would become the stem of the flower and anchor her.”
As he described it, she could see it. “Why does it give you such a charge? It’s not just about tying a woman up so you can do whatever you want to her. Or is it?”
He gave her a quick, very male smirk. “That’s a very important perk. But yes, there are other reasons. I explore a lot of rope disciplines, and one of my personal favorites is semenawa, torture rope. Not as scary as it sounds. It's about contrasting stimuli."
He shifted behind her. "Pull all your hair over your right shoulder."
He could say things in a manner that wasn’t saying them at all, as much as commanding them. What made it so intoxicating was that he pulled it off in such an unexpected moment. Des didn't appear the commanding sort…at first glance. Yet he could compel a woman’s attention with his unwavering gaze, the set of his jaw and an energy that emitted from him even when he was saying nothing at all.
"The other right shoulder." His voice held heat with humor, acknowledging the reason for her distraction. When he shifted closer, his breath stirred the fine hairs on her exposed neck. His body didn't touch hers, but a dense aura stroked her, a cushion of magnetism between two closely aligned bodies, the strength of his interest in her, his desire.
Curving his hand over her hip, he put his lips over the pounding pulse in her throat. A small breath escaped her, a shudder swaying her into a light brush against him. He moved in, and his lips parted, tongue teasing her.
"See how the top part of the orchid is slightly twisted?"
She nodded, her eyes fixed on it. His grip left her hip and cupped her hand, her knuckles nested in his palm. His thumb came over them to press into the flesh at the base of her fingers while his other fingers constricted, capturing her hand fully. Slowly, as his mouth stimulated a thousand nerve endings in her throat, he began to turn her wrist. Not a lot, but his hold and the angle made her gradually aware of pressure and his strength, discomfort edging toward pain. Just when she thought she was going to have to ask him to stop, he did, holding her hand at that unnerving stress point.
His lips created a lot of mad swirling between her chest and the folds of her sex. His inflexible restraint on her hand sent a bolt straight to her core just as powerful. The mix of sexual stimuli had her reaching for his hand on her other hip to steady her, even as things became far less steady.
"Imagine I can tie you in the shape of that flower,” he said, lifting his mouth a fraction from her skin. “I can. You’ll struggle between pain and ecstasy, and I’ll use both to break you into a world of your mind you can't imagine, where every reaction you have belongs to me. I have full command of your senses, your body. You're not even sure if your soul belongs to you anymore. You’re stretched to your physical limits, but you’re aroused, too, not wanting the tension to end.
“Earlier, you asked what kind of Dom I am. That’s your answer.”
